I am still in the planning stages..nothing locked in stone...but thinking I would rather leave Boise and travel to Salt lake City(338 miles),then onto Hurricane,utah(301 miles),ride thru Zion to Prescott(358 miles).Super 8's are available and reasonable..Will camp out in Waitsburg(27-28-29of May),will stay with Bill in Boise(30-31of may) and will be able to join up with "Z" and Brent on the June1st when leaving Boise. Not sure on return Yet!!

Reviewing the map I'll probably just try and meet the PNW group in Boise, the night of the 31st. I figure that will be easier than trying to rendezvous mid-day in Pendleton. And that will get me my fix of twisty two lane roads before I hit the superslab with you chuckleheads. View Larger MapPOP--that's the sound of Zdenko's head exploding when he sees the embedded map.

Hey Bob, My relatives are in Wellsville, and yep, it's always a nice place to crash. I'm sure they wont mind, they are very hospitable. They have put up my band a couple of different times. It's just weather you get a couch, bed or an air mattress. I'm not married to stopping there, and perhaps getting down to somewhere like Provo, might be a better option. I was just looking at saving a nights cash, but it is out of the way a bit. I suggested Kanab because it is just past Zion National Park, which I was suggesting we ride through, and perhaps take a few photos. It is a beautiful place. Kanab is a pretty nice little town too. It seemed like a pretty direct ride to Prescott from there. All suggestions are welcome, if you got an ideas stirring.

Zion slows you down quite a bit, whether you're stopping to take it all in or just trying to get past the people who are stopping to take it all in. Highway 89 just to the east is a nice ride, too. Been on it a couple times.

We could slab down 15 and take 20 over to 89 and head south..at the junction, those who wished to explore Zion could and those who didnt could push on to Kanab...we would all meet up later and "make up"..or we all could go straight to Kanab and those who wished could backtrack to Zion(about 30 miles back).

John and Z, and anyone else for that matter. Do we still plan to stay with Mike in Star? It's just outside of Boise, so we could meet Bob in Boise, for Breakfast and then head out from there. Just checking.

Me too. I just need to know if I'm bringing an air mattress and footpump. Beyond that all I need is a plug for my CPAP.

My only suggestion is getting off the slab at Nephi, UT and taking Hwy89 all the way to Kanab.
I lied, my only other suggestion is that I usually stay a few miles south of Provo in Springville. There's a decent (and fairly new) Days Inn there right next to a Cracker Barrel. The DI is not real expensive but it depends on just how budget you want to go. I think it's been between 70-75 each time I've stayed there (three or four times I think). More than a Motel 6 but a touch nicer and right off the interstate.

That sounds fine John. I usually look for the little mom and pop motels. Like in the movie Vacancy, or Motel 6/Super 8 type (generally sketchy), but I'm also a fan of convenience. I'm easy.

Low budget hotel, okay. Sketchy neighborhood, not so much. I haven't booked anything in Prescott yet. That's probably bad, eh? Didn't plan on staying in the fart factory again.

Meh. Zion. BTDT, didn't get a t-shirt. Like Bob said, we get down into that area, those who want to go through Zion can, other can go straight to Kanab. I don't want to deny Zion to anyone who hasn't seen it.
P.S. Day 1 and 2 don't work, maps don't load.

I think, as much as I would like to swing through Wellsville and Zion (I have been there before) That in the interest of long rides going to Springville does make the most sense, and then to Kanab. It will be awesome either way. I kinda wanted to see it again and ride through that long tunnel. It will give me a good reason to go back.

It's only 380 miles from Wellsville to Kanab down hwy 89. I don't know about everyone else but that's a pretty short day for me. If we rolled in to Kanab mid-afternoon, a side trip to Zion could be in order. It's virtually sneezing distance.
Also, I'm assuming we're parting ways after Prescott and that most of you are heading west then north.

Can I suggest, out of Kanab take 89A instead of 89. Much prettier ride!! And won't take that much longer. About a 5 hour ride from Kanab to Flagstaff, then another 90 minutes to Prescott.

I already suggested an alternate route for day 4, but just looked again, and you are going way out of your way over to Kaibeto and then down to Tuba City. Unless you are trying to hit Monument Valley - which you miss. There isn't much out there besides sheep and cows, and blowing sand. Hwy 89A - Kanab, Fredonia, Jacob Lake (60 miles from the North Rim), Marble Canyon (Lees Ferry and the Navajo Bridge), then on to Hwy 89 and south to Cameron and Flagstaff. Good food at the Vermillion Cliffs Lodge along 89A. There is gas in Fredonia, Jacob Lake and Marble Canyon, then also at The Gap and Cameron before you get to Flagstaff. Just sayin......it is my back yard. Becky

What map are you using "Z"???Follow I-15south from wellesville and turn onto 28,follow south on 28 till junction with 89,go south to junction with 9 and 89(left to Kanab,Right to Zion)your choice Zion or Kanab. In the am do as Becky suggests.Take 89A south and re-connect with 89 at Bitter Springs, then south to Flagstaff and on to Prescott.Hwy 64 is scenic but unnecessary miles and you will be tired. We will have time on saturday for group ride along the rim of the canyon.Just sayin'

Bob, be nice! Im using google maps so I can adjust routes as needed/suggested. Were going from Wellsville to Kanab on Day 3 and then Kanab to Prescott on Day 4. I dot see a "28" anywhere. Theres a 38 that merges with 89 but that wouldnt make sense since Wellsville is East of 38.
My question to Becky was for Day 4. I was asking if she recommended riding straight through to Flagstaff via 89/89a or cutting over 64 to Grand Canyon Village. Ill take advice suggestions from anyone since this is my first time in that area.
