I'm thinking either:
This way or This Way. Was thinking originally of trying to get down there in two days, but thats about 700 miles each day, might be too exhausted by the time we get there, so splitting it up into three days. I need to spend a day in Salt Lake to visit my parents. The trip back home may be best for that since it's about 600 miles between Prescott and SLC and a day of rest while seeing my parents might be good. Of course this is still all penciled in, as always its a time/money thing but hopefully it'll come together this year.

I guess it depends on how early y'all are leaving. I'm planning on taking Memorial Day weekend off, but depending on everyone else' route maybe I can head west a bit rather than due south. I don't have a set route. I just know I don't want to blast straight down there and straight back again on the interstate. That wasn't that much fun and I was extra grouchy while I was there.

I think Im the most flexible of all so time is not an issue for me. Id prefer to take it a little easier and enjoy the ride.
Like I told Brent...Im not a camping kinda person so it'll be hotels for me along the way.

We could meet up in Boise and head south form there.
Seattle to Boise is 505 miles.
Portland to Boise is 430 miles.
Helena to Boise is 500 miles.

Boise to Spanish fork is 390 miles

Spanish fork to Prescott is 557 miles

Those make for some long days and mostly main routes but it does make it three days there.

I have to be honest and say that I like the thought f passing through Grand Junction. I have a cousin there I haven't seen in years.
I also like the idea of heading west to LA for a couple days to see the family and riding back up the coast.

Im just thinking out loud...

If you go through Grand Junction, you maybe could hook up with the Colorado contingent. wrwallpi lives in Junction.

To do it in three days wed need to leave Tuesday at the latest. That would get us there Thursday evening.
I like your thinking cause that would give us Friday to recoup (assuming others are planning on arriving Friday) for the weekend of riding.

I was thinking of this either on the way down or the way back. If I do this on the way down I'd probably blast up the superslab most of the way back. It's not really northwest. I could push it over to the west a bit to hook up with people. I could do Boise as well, BTDT.

East Helena-Afton-GrandJunction

Not sure about that last leg. I can do over 500 on the slab (638 is my record) but with two-lane backroads I try not to plan for more than 350-400/day. Takes longer, but that's kinda the point, right?

Maybe 3 days is too tight of a time frame? 4 days would give us time to enjoy the ride.

Brent, Soren? thoughts.

It all depends on getting the time off and money for lodging. But, four days each way would be better.

okay Z...You are thinking of taking off on the 31st and back about the 9th? (The 30th is my biggest day of work all year) I like the idea of riding up the coast, but I will discuss it with the wife and see if that is cool with her. I have the time, but I gotta save some time off for Nelson.
If not I will race over to I-5 and up. I'll get back to you, I have friends in SoCal I wouldn't mind seeing either.

I like the meet in Boise and down route. Sounds fun.

I'd like to consider it, but am anticipating a month in Australia about that time. Although the last time I rode with a group did not go so well for me...

LOL...well she didn't take me to the hospital last time. It was my sister (the RN) who finally convinced me to go (& took me) 3-4 hours later. Talk about stubborn!!!

I hope you guys have a great ride and post lots of pics !

Frank,
The work will be in SA. But it looks like they want me to take a 10 day break in the middle of the work, to allow for shift rotation (it's an operating power plant). They will pay for hotel, car rental/fuel and meals. So I'm planning on taking my sweety on a sightseeing roadtrip. Not sure where we will go yet, but I'm tempted to try and make it up to the gold coast, with a detour to Sydney so she can see the usual tourist traps.

But I still wish I could go to AZ. Of course, following Z (and his magic divining rod GPS), we'd probably find every rain cloud on the way and back!

My funeral home is located in the middle of a cemetery, so our biggest weekend is Memorial Day weekend. For a little 30 acre place we usually see about 8000 cars come through the gates.

Have seen Boise pop up a time or two. We are in Star, just West of Boise. We have 2 spare bedrooms, a couch and plenty of floor space (also back yard for campers). We do have a trailer that sleeps 4 or so. The trailer is in So. Cal at the moment, have been meaning to bring it back home and if all works out will have it back by May.

All would be welcome.

Will PM our address to any interested.

Hey, I have stayed with Mike a couple of years ago and he and his wife have quite a nice place, and the hospitality is top notch. He met me in a horrible down pour and still let me stay with him the next time I went through. A good thought, and a great guy, of coarse he has a garage with a floor so clean you could eat off of it. [image][/image]

I'm surprised you haven't. Man, there were some freaky gals in Mortuary school. Mostly, freaky in a good way.

I'll tell you some stories over drinks sometime. Not appropriate for a family oriented forum such as this.

Good, if the group takes a different route and anyone else comes this way the offer stands. We would be tickled.

Brent you must have a memory of some other garage, that or you came just after the yearly sweeping. Now I am going to have to delay the sweeping untill just before you all come.

Does Dwight still have his house in California? For the E stop you could all crash there, I'm sure. Just shift it north about 4 miles...

Yeah, actually I DO still have that house there, John!

Though, I'm thinkin' my renters might not get on board with this plan.

(...you know how some people can be sooooo unaccommodating, right?!)

Well, let's put it this way John...so far I seem to have a pretty good rapport goin' on with my renters, and the LAST thing I need right now is for 'em to go all Eddy Murphy on me and start chantin', "Kill my landlord! Kill my landlord!"

That's Nice! Maybe I'll do something similar, except in reverse. I really should spend a day in SLC to visit my parents on the return trip.

Been watching the posts ..reminds me of my alaska 1966 adventure..lots of "lets do it"..then the drop out begins...hopefully all will go..but 3 on the hwy is my max..More than that results into "pack mentality"...may join in when time is closer. Are Rockets welcome???

life is good..I am retired..sold my America in 2008,bought a Rocket and sold that in 3/2013 and now own a new Triumph Bonneville T-100
