I always wear ear plugs when I ride. I tried riding once without ear plugs, for a day ride up to Mt. Rainier and my ears were ringing for hours afterwards. I wear a full face helmet too. And yes my left ear is about 30% good (according to the Navy when I was honorably discharged). Working in power plants all my life doesn't help either.

The ones I use are a reusable soft rubber (silicon?) type product I picked up at some power station. They just fit easily in my ears, although sometimes the fit is a little off and I enjoy more of the Bubs growling. I wash them with hot soapy water every once in a while. What's nice is they have a lanyard so I can't lose one. I also have a stash of foam ones if needed.
