To Quote George Carlin ... Nail together two things that have never been nailed together before and some smuck will buy it from you . I mean you've got to ask yourself why would you buy one ? The new Triumph 800 Tiger is aimed at the market not taken up by the BMW with the 800 Rotax engines and I think if I was after a dual purpose machine I'd definately be giving the Triumph a sniff around , seeing as what great bikes they are putting out . Reliability and Function come way before Looks in my book .
I understand your point about "form following function" here Rick, however this Guzzi is of course more inline with the Triumph Scrambler...a "classically retro" '60s inspired bike...than it would be a more modern and subsequently a more competent "Adventure Tourer" such as the Tiger.
And seeing as how Triumph has sold more than just a few of their Scramblers to folks out there, I can see why Moto Guzzi has also decided to try their hand at this, 'cause evidently there is somewhat of a market for this category of motorcycle.
(...especially, I'll bet, for us older farts who fondly remember those high-piped Triumph Trophys and Honda 305/350/450s Scramblers of yore...which is pretty much Moto Guzzi's demographic anyway)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
