Didn't know where to post this since it's not actually bike gear. I saw this video and thought, hmmmm, I wonder if this stuff would be any good in helmets or riding gear. Maybe helmets could be made thinner and riding gear made even more flexible. Looks like it could take a beating and really pads impact.

That is quite interesting, Chris... thanks for posting that video. It caught my interest so I googled it and found this site. Packed full of info and a collection of equally as interesting videos on Xion protective gear. http://www.stuntpadding.com/

now thats a usefull invention
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

It looks like it takes a sudden impact pretty darn good, but what about a sudden impact followed by sliding?

That's a good question, Soren. I looked through most of those videos on the site Kieth posted but didn't see any sliding. My guess, after seeing how the 'stuff' behaves, would be it may not be too effective in a slide. Good thought.

Ah C'mon, Chris! Why, THIS "invention" is just downright SILLY.......putty. (sorry)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

An invention is a new composition, device, or process. An invention may be derived from a pre-existing model or idea, or it could be independently conceived.............blah blah blah who cares.

Kevlar jeans like (dragginjeans) in combo with this stuff would be baddass.
My question is how does it breath? How uncomfortable is it on a hot day?

There were some insoles that Billy Mays pitched a couple years ago that was flexible but could also sustain sudden impacts. In the comercial, he wraps it around his hand and they have a car run over it.

Interesting. However, it comes from Europe so the sizing could/will be messed up.

I just watched that video on YouTube. I wonder how close in chemistry it is to the stuff I posted. It sure would be nice to have this technology in riding gear...if it worked and breathed like Z brought up.

You would think that maybe with either the Impact Gel or the Xion stuff or a combination of, someone could come out with some kind of revolutionary lighter weight and safer helmet.
