The 2001-2 790 igniters on both the 270° and 360° had a lump sticking out of the resin potting on the front, these tend to die more often, it may just be because they're older and they're the ones which cut out at high revs,

When you run out of steam at 8,000rpm it's as Triumph designed it to be. Mainly cams, but also restricted airflow through the carbs. I've been boring OEM carbs to 38mm and OEM throttle bodies to 39mm, even on a standard engine with airbox and free flowing pipes this streches out the usable revs to about 8,300-8,500rpm. With OEM carbs that last 1,000 revs from 7,000 to 8,000 always seems laboured, with larger carbs or TB's it takes that laboured feel away and your over 8,000rpm before you know it.
