Yeah! And I'll betcha Steve down under will say it "smells like rice" too!!! (...actually, I think it's pretty darn ingenious the way those wheels move)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Looks like Wall-E was right on target predicting what will happen to mankind. Those skinny young ladies won't stay like like that riding that thing around all day. The ladies were smiling alot too. I wonder if it has a Harley engine powering it?

Yeah! Good point, Bill. This could turn out be another of Honda's "answer to a question nobody asked"...just like that DN-01 scooter/motorcycle thingy.
(...though I still say that wheel mechanism is very ingenious)

The more I think about it, I bet it would be a great idea for people with certain types of disabilities, especially our service veterans. Forget the lazy office staff.

Yep, who know?! Maybe something very similar to this could eventually replace many wheelchairs in use today.

Now I see why the slick Honda video has music over it - those motors are loud. I suppose people will hear you creep up behind 'em though. Do Corbin do a replacement seat yet? What tyres are they using on those wheels? How come there are no fins anywhere?? I'd like to see one negotiate those bobbly footpaths (sidewalks) we have at every pedestrian crossings - you know, the ones for the visually impaired? You're gonna look such a div if that wheel locks up and you faceplant off it!

I wonder how the drive wheel handles things like sand, mud, rain, doggy do......? Picture those wheels on a Honda Goldwing while you were trying to park the thing. The possiblities seem endless but I wonder how durable the drive mechanism is? Probably meant for indoors or an extremely clean/non abraisive roadway.

What a waist of time and energy. that thing is going to catch on like the segway. That energy could be used to help the handicaped. Instead its made into a d@mned toy for lazy a$$ed people with money to waist. They keep riding that thing its going to look like a cucumber slice in an a$$ sandwich.

It seems to me with this type of technology they could make a wheel chair that would be abel to stand a paralized person up so they could be face to face with people in social situations, and then sit them down when they were at a table or desk.

I have to admit that if incorporated into a motorcycle, lane changes would be sweet. You could really dazzle the people in cars at an intersection while making a left hand turn by completing full circles as you proceed throught your turn. Oh come on you would all do it!

That is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. The technology is cool, but the contraption is dumb. Maybe they'll use that technology for something else more practical someday.

+1 To tame some basic issues of gravity & balance are pretty impressive, and someday we'll figure out what to do with it.
I can't help but recall the Segway pre-release hype about changing the world, blah blah blah, then it debuted to a collective yawn. "Looky dere - that guy is riding his push type lawn mower backwards!"
Whenever I see police on a Segway, I'm almost tempted to ask: "What did you do to p*ss of the Lt?"
I'm thinking a lawn mowing / snow shoveling / bike detailing robot for $99.99 could be good. I'm already fat, so it's all good.
ps - Whenever I cannot avoid mall or shopping escort duty, I am ever so tempted to put on some dark glasses, and hop one of those electric wheel chairs. Aside from the obvious malling in comfort, I could feign blindness and ram those who belive that when in groups, it's a good idea to have team meeting either in front of doorways, or at the top or bottom of the escalator. "Sorry, didn't think anyone was stupid enough to stand where you are."

International Incident.......hmmmmmn
I don't think this was a waste of energy or $$$'s. The device might not be very practical right now in that config but the technology will be used to improve society. Consider what Steve and Dwight stated about helping disabled vets, people, wheelchair dependants, amputees, people with balance problems due to inner ear issues, etc etc etc.
This is good. In my opinion.....but it's just an opinion

Thats what they said about the segway. The tech... would be used eventually to help the handicaped or disabled. It is still just another toy, and so this will also be. A highly enovative toy to stroke their narsisism. It would be nice if you were right Gregger, and they did do something great with it

As a Service Officer with the Disabled American Veterans, I know plenty of guys that would like something a bit more access friendly. No vehicle lifts to install. Doorways to be widened, the list goes on.
Practicality aside, designing a stable upright system is pretty cool. Unicyclers are probable excited as heck. They have their own machine now.

I'll bet similar words were spoken when some yayhoo first put one of them there gas-o-line engines in a bicycle...
Give them time Chad, It can take time from new development to gain the more practical, beneficial uses. And, chances are, you won't be able to recognize them as beginning with something like the Segway when they end up in the various forms where the technology will be used.

That was really funny. That's what I want to drive around my office. Pulling caskets behind me and such. We could do away with the hearse and just tow the casket right from the front of the chapel to the grave.

Whether this thing winds up going mainstream or not, I must applaud the thinking and engineering that went into it.
It makes me feel better about what the future holds in store for my grandkids and their's. Real fast and flickable electric motorcycles are right around the corner. We may not realize "The Jetsons" world in our lifetime, but as old as that concept is, we're getting closer everyday. It might be fun to still be around by then, and by then, they may be able to keep themselves around longer, too.

I was surprised at at how many negative comments there were about this device. I thought this was very cool science, and like some others, could be very good for handicapped people.
