Do we have any installation destructions on fitting some rubber gaiters to a speedmaster? Should I just blunder in blindly myself without them? Is there anything I could potentially stuff up? I am not much of a mechanic but prepared to have a go.

I have the same questions. The wheel and brakes don't really bother me. I'm a little hesitant to take the forks apart though. Any tips what to or what not to do?

You don't have to take the forks apart, you just need to remove them. Somebody will probably say that they pulled the forks and wheel out all at once, but I wouldn't try that. Do it next time you're replacing your front tire and so it's out of the way anyway.

Pull the fender. Unbolt the calipers and tie them out of the way. There are four bolts for the lower shrouds to the lower yoke, four clamp bolts holding the forks in the triple-trees (yokes) and that's it. Just slide them out, pull the lower fork shrouds, pull or leave the upper shrouds (I left mine in, but powder-coated black), and slide the gators over the fork tubes. Reassembly is the reverse process.

So it sounds like I should be able to do it. It wont stuff my brakes up by removing the calipers from the disk?

Thanks for your help John.

I'm not sure what this means. Don't pull the brake lever whilst the calipers are off the discs. But every time you get a new front tire the discs are pulled out the calipers, and slid back in. Fairly routine stuff. I've had my front wheel off several times. Don't disconnect the brake lines from the calipers and you won't have to bleed them. Just unbolt them and zip tie them to the (cold) headers or something. Don't kink the hoses. Four bolts to pull the fender bracket. I don't usually pull the fender off the bracket but just be careful you don't scratch the fender on the fork legs. before you pull the fender don't forget to pull the speedometer cable loop on the rear left side of the fender. Of course you have the brake crossover line to deal with between the calipers so I'd probably pull those before doing the fender.

So... assuming you already have the front wheel pulled... and assuming you've read the site General Disclaimer at http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/administrative/disclaimer/ and assuming you don't have some windscreen or other accessory bolted to the front end.

1. Unbolt the calipers, unclip the crossover line from the fender, unbolt the insulated P-clamps that secure the brakelines to the fender bracket, tie the calipers back out of the way taking care not to kink the hoses or pull the brake lever.

2. If you haven't already when removing the wheel, disconnect the speedometer cable loop from the fender on the left side, whether it's the stock rubber loop or an aftermarket version or something similar from the hardware store.

3. Unbolt the fender bracket from the fork legs. Additionally you may wish to unbolt the fender from the fender bracket, but I often don't. Take care not to scratch the paint on the fender--it's easier than you might imagine.

4. With the fork legs now free of any connections besides the upper and lower yokes, unbolt the two bolts in each of the lower fork shrouds, careful to slide them down and not let them fall down onto the fork legs. Let them rest there.

5. Loosen and remove the lower yoke clamp bolts (2).

6. One side at a time, loosen the upper clamp bolts and gently guide the fork leg out of the yokes, taking care to not let them slide out freely and hit the ground. You may have to jack the bike up higher than usual (on a regular motorcycle floor jack like the ones from Craftsmen) to get them to clear the yokes, but probably not. Do the same thing with the other side. REMEMBER which side is which. They are unique and cannot be swapped.

7. WATCH THE UPPER SHROUDS. There is nothing holding them in besides the friction of their rubber grommets. If you wish to remove them now's the time.

8. With the forks removed, slide the lower shroud off the fork and replace with the gator.

Reverse the process to install the forks. Torque everything to factory specs.

Hopefully I caught it all. Somebody else will likely fact check me or disagree on the order of the steps. That's okay.

Somebody posted a link to a Triumph site that if you know the associated part number, you can download the installation instructions. It helped with my engine bar installation. I don't know if FJ can post the link, but it would be useful to have here and the tech vault.

Somebody has instructions? It's not a factory part. Aftermarket part instructions are usually a joke.

It is a genuine Triumph part and I tried that but it dosnt recognise the part number. The part number is suppose to be A9900462 but it dont work.

It seems fairly straight forward so I will attempt it tomorrow with a clear head. Your instructions are very good, thank you muchly.

Yup, just pull the forks... not difficult at all.

Normally when I remove a brake calliper I slide a piece of wood between the brake pads and cable tie in place.

Added security just in case the brake lever is pulled.

Thats a good idea Frank I will do that because I am stupid enough to squeeze the brake lever.

Thanks FriarJohn (and others). Now all I need is a little heat in the garage.

i don't know if it was part of the steps but i like to get a piece of twine and tie it to the top bolt hole on the caliper to the handel bars with enough twine so it is about the same place it was when bolted to the bracket and let it swing in the breeze...less chance of it getting kinked.

i put gaitors on my t100.
simple process just remove the forks from the clamps and slide them on. i think the forks are the same size as the bonnie/t100/scrambler/thruxton

If it isn't broke, I haven't messed with it.

The gaiters are a stock part for a Bonneville. The bottom part slips over the top of fork lower. The upper part has a clamp that goes around the fork and holes it in place. You can remove the wheel/forks in one piece (I did this way) slip the gaiters on and put the wheel/fork back on. Very easy to do...
