Must be the fins. Just never did do much for me. I mean the '57 Chev is too overdone for my taste. The '55 was cool though. With a very few notable exceptions, Detroit's offerings of the late '50s-early'60s were studies in styling excess. But hey, that's just me I don't like chrome either.

So Bill, are you saying you think the '59 Chevy looks better than the '57???
(...say it ain't so, Joe...err...Bill!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

So tell me Bill, does the reason you have a liking towards the 59 Biscayne have anything to do with memorable preoccupations from the backseat of that particular car?

Oh, well sure, Bill. How could anybody not appreciate the ultimate "cruiser" car, a '49 Merc...especially when it's chopped like that. (hey, didn't some kid actor who was killed years ago in some kinda "little ferrin sporty car" drive one o' these Mercs in some movie he made?)

I had a 51 Merc 4 door which if I remember right is the exact car Mr. Dean was driving in rebel without a cause. Was an awesome car, but I sold it cause I was young and stupid(still am).

Well folks, just a few hours ago the DeSoto hit the stand at the auction house, and it sold for.... ...$170,000 US. (...and so I guess the owner knew what he was talkin' about after all, though he still turned out to be optimistic by some $30,000)

I never liked the 57 Chevy way too boxy for me. 49, 50, 51 were years I liked. 49 Fleetmaster was a good looking car, 2 door was better than the 4 door. Then the late 50s stuff too like the 59 Impala.Mid 50s stuff I liked some of the Studebakers like my 55 Champion.

Yeah, ours was the deluxe so had the fender skirts. Also had all the original chrome and the lethal looking hood ornament too! Too bad it had a swiss cheese floor / doors / body ...
