I e-mailed Dale this week to see if he is still in business but have not received a reply yet. I do hope Specialty Spares is still up and running. I absolutely love the sound of their pipes on my America.

I just picked up a set of billet tips off ebay. Turns out it was Dale selling them. He is definitely out of business, for health reasons. He has a few billet tips left but I think that's it. Eddy also has a couple pairs of tips left. I'm also buying a second set of tips directly from Dale. Unfortunately he doesn't have any drilled ones left.
So if you find a set of SS pipes used, GRAB them. They're all that's left.

That's too bad about SS but I just hope Dale is okay... that's the most important thing. Glad you could find some tips John!

Now I just have to find someone with a nice big bandsaw that can cut the baloney off my pipes nice and square.

I wonder if you could cut them with a pipe cutter?

I wonder if I could do it without marring the chrome. I want to ceramic coat them eventually but one of the sets of tips is black and I wouldn't mind starting to use them this Spring. I think a bandsaw with a fairly fine blade could do the trick without causing too much damage. I'm open to suggestions.

Keep the faith, true believers! This from the man himself:
"There is still a chance I might do some more pipes if the economy picks up this year. Have everybody keep checking with (Eddy) and if we get enough interest I will do another batch."
I gave him my email address and told him I'd help get the word out. He's familiar with this site so hopefully he'll see the enthusiasm. Maybe we can rig up a group buy if he comes out of retirement.

John you could use a chop saw and abrasive blade. Just keep the pipe cool so as not to discolor. I have both a horizontal and vertical bandsaws.

What would be the best way to keep it cool? Damp rag or spray bottle? I have a friend with a chop saw and abrasive blade.

So this is a dumb question: They're chrome plated, right, not just polished? And they're stainless underneath?

So... I got vintage pipes now? I love my SS pipes, wouldn't want to loose them, so now they better hold up! Hope Dale is doing fine, all the best to him.

Steele, chrome plated, no stainless.

That's a pretty valid question if yer gonna be cutting them down... wouldn't want the chrome to chip or flake off near the cut.

I absolutely LOVE my long cannons. It's unfortunate that Dale is having to shut down, he's a good guy. Hopefully there is enough interest to keep him going.

Trying to start something with Dwight with that superfluous E?
John, I would use either water in a spray bottle or cutting oil or cool tool lube in an oil can. I doubt the sparks would ignite cutting oil but you could eliminate that remote possibility by using the water in a spray bottle. Make sure you clamp the pipes tight, I would wrap them in a rag and pad the vise with wood so the rag protects them from anything that might be on the wood. Since I have a band saw I would use that and cutting oil.

Yeah, talking with my buddy yesterday the chop saw is out. I'll have to find a band saw. A pipe cutter could work but that would probably require losing an extra half-inch. I'd rather not do that if possible.

The pipe cutter will mar the surface of the pipe near the cut.
Try and find a horizontal bandsaw, you can clamp the pipe stationary and the blade drops slowly. Less chance of a crooked cut or binding.

Got my short black billet tips and my slotted billet tips from Dale today. They are awesome. I think I can live without the drilled ones that I wanted originally. The slotted ones will look outstanding on my pipes when I get them ceramic coated black.

Hi Guys ,
Here is the gig, Specialty Spares will be running special runs. As soon as six guys get on the list they'll make a run. At that time you will be asked for a deposit, it will take about two to three weeks for you to get them from that point.
I will be the only dealer he will be working with so feel free to let me know if you want to be on the list and I will keep you apprised of time frames etc.
Best case scenario, the market turns up and things will turn around for Specialty Spares. Dale is great people and I support him because he makes a great product.

Yep, that pretty much tracks with what he told me. Excellent news.
Can he do a set of short canons ceramic coated black? I don't recall if he did any pipes black or if people did that themselves.
I'd be tempted to sell my short slashcuts and buy a new set like I described above, just to support the dude (and if you're stuck at 5 people for the run). Would save me the trouble/hassle of cutting my pipes and shipping them to Jet-Hot.

Absolutely love my long slash cuts. If for any reason I had to replace the pipes, I wouldn't want anything else for looks or sound. Hopefully, I'd be able to get them though Eddy.
