Can you just remove and cut 2" off the fork springs? If so what else would have to be done?

If your goal is to lower the front of the motorcycle you should cut the spacer down. Not the spring. If it is a radical lowering job you are performing then you should invest in a progressive front spring kit. I wouldn't cut more than 1-1/2" off the stock spacer.

I can tell you from experience you should not cut the spacer. I made new spacers for Wendy's bike as an experiment and once you decrease the pre-load too much the bike bottoms too easily. I'm with Doug in saying to buy the kit if you want to do it then do it right.

If I recall correctly, the front springs are made so a flat round section of the full circumference of the springs bears the weight on both ends of the springs. To cut the spring would put the weight onto a very small surface area, which would likely result in damage or extreme wear at the point of contact. The oil would then become contaminated with metal grindings in short order as well.

And holy smokes that steel is strong too. You would need a good grinder to cut them i would imagine too.
I would just buy new springs from progressive to be safe.
