That's correct, in 1996 he was racing a jet powered boat on a lake. Jet engines take a few seconds to power up, they also take a few seconds to power down. His boat flipped and propelled itself straight to the bottom drowning him inside. He was a real cool guy who revolutionized choppers, hot rods, and the whole mail order parts industry.
