What a bunch of sheet. Wesley will not honor my warranty. He says the unit is no longer the same and he has a different manufacturer. Therefore he will have to replace my Procom CDI with one of his new ones and I will have to pay him 60 bucks. Edited: Correction, try $80.00.
On top of that had I sent this unit in for warranty so procom could have received it before January 6th, I would have received a new unit without charge!
Point? Beware of the warranty claims with procom as they will hee haw and will rip you off. Oh yeah did I mention that I wanted to return this thing on July 28th, 2010? The only reason I didn't was BECAUSE of Wesley saying to try out a different map. Well it took me 5 months to get around to it. Something about a ride to Montana. I could overnight night too and they say they will send out a new one. Now to see if overnight shipping is less than 60 bucks...Edited: Correction, try $80.00.

Follow up. After figuring what the overnight shipping charges would be ($18.30), I called Kyle (sales manager) to ask for an address/RMA. Kyle asked if I would hold while he verified the overnight shipping return deal for a new unit with Wesley. Kyle comes back and says Wesley was not serious. imagine freaking that huh? Wesley talking out of his butt, again. So what did I do? What could I do? I paid the 80 bucks for a new one. ($269.00 retail new less the $189 I paid for it.) At least I don't have to pay to return it. Nor pay additional shipping to receive it. Bright side? Maybe. Not. On closing the phone call with Kyle, I mentioned to Kyle that is must suck working for such a buttholous maximus.

I can appreciate your frustration there, Moe... bummer deal if you ask me. Just curious though... what was the problem with the Procom in the first place? (I ask this knowing you mentioned it elsewhere but....)

Keith, the procom CDI mimicked a bad coil. After a good warm up the bike while idling would shut itself off. After 50 miles or so the bike would almost act like it was was running on one cylinder till you got it to second gear or so. I called it an off idle stumble.

Kyle is a recent addition to procom's workforce. Wesley's last email to me: Quote:
Hi, James,
Please contact our sales manager Kyle, He can give you a new one with distributor cost.
Thanks!
Wesley Zhou
So I called Kyle. I felt just like I was trying to buy a car. You know the gig about the general manager and making the customer wait while the sale perp walks back and forth. Kyle seems okay. I put it to him several ways, very politely, about the wrong being done. Like had I bought a tshirt from a shop that I returned later. The return desk says, "The tshirt is now on sale, I am only going to refund you the current price" We talked about warranties. How could one side change the warranty? Then Wesley told Kyle to tell me that my CDI was an experimental unit and had no warranty. But Jim we'll let you upgrade to a bonafide one. I asked Kyle when this suppository new CDI came along. Well Jim I wasn't here when that occurred. I also said that the price increased from 189 to 269 like 3 days after I bought mine. So Kyle, just how did mrassholewesley go from experimental to final version in three days?
I'm over it.

Zdenko, My rant was not so much about the quality of the procom CDI but rather about the lack of customer service. Specifically, not honoring a warranty. One other member has had issues with the quality. So far so good therefore on the quality front.
I just received my new Procom CDI today. Turned the blue dial to position four and loaded map 9. Map 9 has a default rev limit of 9K! Ouch! So I did a minus 1000 on the modify RPM box. Effectively moving the rev limit to 8K.
Now to install and see if this replacement is worth a dern.

Its installed. Was going to ride to the store and get some romaine but decided to make due with 12 day old chicken and 5 day old turkey. Tomorrow I'll fire her up and see how map 9 is. (Good refrigerator eh?)

If you make it to tomorrow after eating 12 day old chicken !!!! And even if you do your 'seat-of-the-pants' dyno could be misleading (adding a few HP of its own )

Sorry to hear of the way Procom craps on a customer Jim. I would want to believe that your introduction of them to this forum in the early days sold some additional units to begin with, not to mention that you logged your complaint long before the warranty was up. And now to have a company of that size nickle and dime you, with what is possibly an illegal fulfillment of warranty is disappointing. Mr W had all the time in the world when you were on the buying end, & now he sloughs you off to a hatchet man. (cough) weasel (cough)
I'm reminded of Dell & Packard Bell in the early days of personal computers. Dell, in their early years , offered customer service that was 2nd to none. If you had a problem, a shiny new part or what have you would be bangin on your door in a day or three. I do strongly believe that level of service (then) was key to their current X large chunk of the market segment. Packard Bell, well, if one knows the name, they know the story and the resultant early flame out.
Ya reap what ya sow, Wesly da Weesil

Moe, I may have missed this somehow earlier, but what specifically was the problem with your first Procom unit?
Did your bike start firing on only one cylinder, or quit working altogether? Or, did it become un-programable or something?
(...just for future reference, and just in case I'll need to purchase one in the future)

Being less-informed, what does the Procom do for the bike? Is this something I should consider adding to complement my Nology coils and wires?
Blue/White 2007 TBA, Thruxton needles, Unifilter, AI removed, Polaris Bellmouth, Bubs, Nology Coils/wires, Lightbar, Ricor Intiminators, Hagon Nitros, Tall Sissy Bar w/luggage rack, Dart flyscreen & Lowers. 130 Mains, TrueGel Battery MG12-BS.

Dwight, The procom cdi would turn off the bike while idling at a traffic light. After a good fifty miles the procom cdi would cause a major stumble while accelerating from idle to about 3K rpm.

With the procom cdi one can advance the spark and raise the rev limit.
Click on the picture of Cinnamon Girl above to read my first impressions with map 9.

The other day, my most favorite of all cats, Frisky, snatched up and then ate this large square of Swiss cheese that had fallen from my cutting board. After this cheesy snack Frisky then went over to his favorite known mouse entry point and waited with baited breath.

Who did you order this from. What company and where so I dont end up dealing with them.
