As I was sharpening my knife this morning that I always carry, I was wondering what kind of knife some of you out there use. I just have a cheap one I got from AG Russell. It's a Ka-Bar folding spear point hunter designed by Bob Dozier. Only cost $19.95 and it's a great knife for the money. I figure if I lose it, it won't sting as much to replace it with another rather than some $100 Boker or Benchmade.

So since I bought this knife, I get the AG Russell catalogs in the mail, and talk about knife porn! I drool over some of the knives that are in the catalog, but the prices usually shock me back to reality. Nothing like a well made knife though.

I just carry a small lock blade Buck knife. Maybe 1-1.25" blade. Comes in pretty handy for my job. Don't really need much more. I used to have a nice Marine Corps K-Bar until somebody lifted it from me. Now that is a knife!

I use a Buck '55. Actually used to have a couple of 'em. As a musician/soundman, they have infinate uses. Now in NYC, where a cop can consider nearly anything a concealed weapon, I always carry a Leatherman.

i use two knives when im hunting , a buck special 119 fixed blade and a gator serrator folding knife by gerber . and when im fishing i use a marttini filet knife , however im bloody hopeless at sharpening these knives .

Yeah, I'm not a great knife sharpener myself. Right now I'm using a 1000 Japanese waterstone, but I really have to concentrate to keep the angle of the blade in the correct postion on the stone.

I used to carry Spyderco folding knives all the time but I kept losing them. Now I have a folding utility knife I bought at Home Depot for $10.

(I've also got some Cold Steel throwing knives and a Master Tanto, but those aren't exactly carrying knives. )

Don't carry one. Bad habit since i fly alot.

Gerber 154CM, 3 & 7/8" clip point blade, no serration, with an open frame so crap falls out.

Stays sharp longer than most blades I've owned.

Never leave home without it.

i own to many to list, i always have 1 or 2 on me. my favorite right now is a shrade, but that little swiss army hangin on my key chain gets used more than any of them hahahahahahaha

I used to have a couple of Schrade pocket knives, an Old Timer and an Uncle Henry. Lost those years ago. I heard they went out of business recently.

What I like about my Ka-Bar lockback is the clip on it. I just clip it to the outside edge of my right front jeans pocket with the knife inside, and I haven't lost it yet in 2 years of carrying it(knock on wood). Real light and thin too.

Because carrying a knife over here will get you a few years inside, it's difficult to justify 'em.

That said ... when camping, I usually have one of these in the panniers:

Webley lock knife - around 2¾" blade.

I also have a Schrade+ 'Old Timer' fixed blade knife with 5½" blade I used when I did more archery than I do now.
Feels great in the hand and seems unbreakable!

I also have a 9" Bowie type.

Knives, Ive got knives I always like adding a new knife to my collection. To name a few I have Benchmade automatics, Blackie Collins, Buck, Ontario, Kabar, Case, Spyderco, Gerber, SOG, Leatherman, and many others. One of my favorite brands are Kershaw, holds an edge very well and good quality. The originals were designed by Pete Kershaw (from Oregon I believe) and made in Japan. I bought a new one lately and seen that it was made in Taiwan, still good quality but I hate to see made in Taiwan on anything. I have all sizes and designs but I always carry a small lightweight pocket knife, usually Kershaw or Spyderco. I need to quit collecting everything that catches my eye it gets expensive, especially with Brent at Newspeedmaster. Ron

I carry a small, Case Stockman with me where ever I go. Gets me into trouble on planes, courthouses, government buildings. Fortunately three places I seek to avoid!

This is my pride and joy. Got me tossed out of the Empire State building a few years ago. Hey, who knew they x-ray'd backpacks? (forgot it was in there) A buddy gave it to me about 25 years ago. One side of the blade says "Stiletto", the other "Made in Italy".

Puma and Case are the ones I carry most. Like some of you, I have a weakness for knives. Case Russlock is what I have in my pocket now.

Your post turned out to be very strange for me today. A few years back, when I worked in Frederick, MD we used a local locksmith for all of our work. One day I noticed he had a beautiful Damascus steel keyring and I asked him where it came from. He told me that his neighbor, Bill Moran made it for him. Bill Moran made one of the Rambo knifes, I believe the first one and I knew he was famous in knifemaking circles.
Apparently, locksmith's and knifemaker's get along well and my locksmith had became friends with Bill. I said I'd like to meet him some day. My locksmith invited me to Bill's shop many times, but I never took the time to go and meet this legend. Today, I did a google search for his name and learned he passed away on Feb 16th.

What I carry varies. I have an assortment of Benchmade, Cold Steel, Spyderco and Al Mar pocket knives. Most are plain edge with a 3.5" to 4" blade, 4" being preferred. All have a pocket clip. I lose them about as often as I lose my wallet, which is rarely. They get used many times every day.

At my first visit to my physical therapist she wondered about the big thing in my pocket and asked if it was a knife. She set me up but I did not make a lewd remark.

I showed her the knife and she said it was very big. I said well, I left my pistol at home. She laughed, being a vet.

Depends on the application and time of day. I normally carry a Pfaltzgraff butter knife around breakfast, and I use a Chicago Cutlery steak knife at dinner. Both are non-retractable.

i carry a Kershaw folder...a lockback with a 4" blade...black anodized with torsion bar assist for fast one-handed opening...c/w pocket clip...i carry it with me everyday, everywhere i go...i use it to clean my nails, strip wire, open packages and letters...my son is a weapons expert...he also carries a Kershaw...he's a very capable fighter, and has shown me a few moves...God save me from ever having to be in a situation where i need to use it as protection, though. he tells me that if a guy knows how to use a knife, he's very dangerous, but if a guy doesn't know how, he's likely just as dangerous because he's unpredictable...he says if you ever get in a knife fight, expect that you're going to get cut...

Now would you expect any less? After all, Dwight ain't up this early...

I am glad to see that others carry a Kershaw Knife, as I mentioned in my earlier post that Kershaw are some good quality knives that hold an edge very well and have never let me down. I let someone borrow one of my Kershaws once and I didn't know he was going to be prying with it and the tip broke on it. I sent it back to Kershaw and they replaced it, no questions asked. I learned not to lend out my knives much like my bikes to others. I have at least 20 different Kershaw knives. I don't carry most of them they just caught my eye and I had to add them to my collection. Some of the Kershaws are good collectors items to some that collect knives. OK enough rambling Just my 2 cents.

I carry an original Leatherman. I think it's the one Noah carried on the Ark, handed down to that carpenter from Nazareth, carried on the moon by Neil Armstrong and now proudly carried by yours truly. The variety of handy dandy tools that accompany the knife blade make it my favorite. In the unthinkable event that my Leatherman was lost..er temporarily misplaced or stolen, I would replace it immediately. For those who haven't yet experienced how invaluable a Leatherman can be, log on to www.leatherman.com and check their products. The Super Leatherman is a great tool, but a little heavy to carry in your pocket. I prefer the original model, but all are great tools with a 25 year warranty. Check them out, then buy one. Carry it with you always unless laws say you can't and you will find it to be one of the most useful small tools you own.

I forgot about my Leatherman! It lives in the pocket on my chaps.

Over the other side of the pond it is illegal to carry knifes, will get you up to 2yrs inside.
So I always carry a multitool (something very similar to Leatherman).

Paul,it is comforting to know that the UK has successfully disarmed the law abidiing citizen.I would assume that the nonconforming citizen and crook still carrys.So what has been accomplished is that there is the appearence/thought that no one walking around the UK is armed. Vegas

I tend to carry an old electricians knife with me when working, hunting or fishing. I don't carry it when out and about with no rason to carry a blade.
Scotland is the worlds knife crime capital, hence the police are very hard on people found to be carrying a knife or blade.

What exactly are the laws regarding knives in England. Is blade length an issue or is it no knife carry at all?

I can't imagine not having my Benchmade Ares with me at all times. It's pricey, but I've had it for three years of DAILY carry at it is still going strong. There is nothing better out there for us lefties. The Axis lock on the Benchmade is truy ambidextrous (sp?), and it can be opened AND closed one-handed without putting your finger or thumb in front of the blade when closing.

In scotland the blade must be 3 1/2" or under to be legal
but it depends on the attitude test for any blade
if plod think your an ar$e then they will take you in

I keep this one in my toolbag. I won it as a door prize at Hogtoberfest. See, those Harley people are good for something.
