I notice in the classifieds and on some websites "shipping to the lower 48 only" type statements. I there a problem shipping out of that place or can people not be bothered? Here we fill out a post card size form at the post depot and away it goes. What's the problem?

I have shipped to Canada plenty of times, the only pain is filling out the customs form.

Sometimes when shipping USPS the stuff gets 'lost.' For that reason many vendors just don't want to go there. If shipping via a courier, the brokerage fees up here are a deal killer. Yup, shipping North across the 49th can be a PITA.

What Dave said! My latest experience with shipping outside the US with USPS. Two days after shipping the package at the local post office the box shows up on my doorstep in the hands of my postman. There is a form attached that says the "Round date stamp" was not stamped on a copy of the customs form (the PO does this when you drop off the package and form). SOOOOO, I had to take the thing back to the local post office and get them to put on the round date stamp they had failed to do when I shipped it the first time. As Moe says....Grrrr!

I have not had any problems with USPS, it is the prefered method. If shipping by UPS(spit)I will always look elsewhere. UPS brokerage can up the price 50%, has lost packages, showed items still awaiting customs clearance when they are already delivered in their tracking. UPS (spit)service very bad.

I will say that one time when I shipped something to marty, they sent it back to my house because I just put my return address, without my first and last name. Once I added that it went with no trouble.

Understatement! I recently shipped something to China, and i was worried it wouldn't get there because (to me) the address was very strange! No room left over on that label!

Well, in THAT case, I wonder if more packages might get through to our friends up in Canada if the address read "Hoserland" instead???

(...jus' askin'!...and yeah, I'm a lot o' help here, ain't I???!!!)

HEY!!! I've GOT IT!!!

Instead of sendin' all packages to the address of the recipient, send 'em to the nearest Tim Horton's up there, and THEN just let good ol' Tim take care of all customs charges and such!!!

Uh huh! And THEN you guys up there can just pick up your packages of spares and accessories the next time ya feel like a doughnut or two!

(...oh, and a cup o' coffee of course!!!...yeah, yeah, I know...I'm a "whole lot o' help"...again)

How close are you to the US border? Get a US Border Store pick up place and have your stuff shipped there. Usually free US shipping. Zip over and pick it up....declare what you will on the way home. I use this place.... http://www.usparcelpickup.com/

Oh okay... NOW I see why you started this here thread, Jeff! Ya got yer eye on some of those goodies down in the Classifieds section. If you read my post above there somewhere you'll know I said stuff has been known to go missing via USPS. Fasteddy (a great vendor if you don't already know him) knows all about this 'cause he sends stuff to Canada all the time. Meanwhile it seems Priority Post from the US is a better way to go (unless you live near the border and can jump across for pickup as suggested in this thread). At least with Priority Post the item can be tracked. Hope this helps!

I recently shipped a combat head to france.. my one and only overseas nightmare.. insured it ... filled out all the dang customs forms.. and three weeks later i get an email from a really mad gent.... the box looked like some one had impaled it on a welding table leg... fins broken etc..
ran it thru the insurance folk .. and all we got was
"french postal said they didnt do it" ....
lesson learned.. i now ship only to US .. anywhere a flat rate box will get it.. no more overseas for this puppy !
lol ..
the gent paid to have the broken head welded up .. nothing i could do but learn from this very nasty experience..
now if i ebay commando stuff .. you can bet ..
US ONLY >> NO OVERSEAS .>

I buy a lot of radio controlled airplane stuff on the internet (ebay and various overseas retailers) coz either it's a lot cheaper overseas, or they have stuff we just can't get here in Australia. Generally on ebay the small time operators won't ship overseas and all claim the same reasons... "USPS loses stuff... FedEx/UPS is too expensive". They're right about FedEx/UPS, but I've never had anything lost or damaged, and I've shipped from the UK, USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, & China. I'm sure it can happen but I've never seen it, and if it does get damaged that's what insurance is for. The worst that's happened is occasionally things will take a bit longer to get here. The bigger retailers are usually quite happy to send overseas so I just go with them. If the little guys don't wanna send to me, they miss out on my business. The biggest pain in the neck for me is trying to get hold of a whole RC plane from the USA coz USPS has ridiculously small limits on the size of parcel they'll carry.

Oh well... I'll get it from China instead.
