I was in Albany NY yesterday, working at one of the NY Thruway Travel plazas. Light snow and it was about 25 degrees. A guy rolled in wearing biker gear and on his leather jacket were "Leatherneck MC" three-piece colors. He stopped to tell the plaza manager the flag was all the way up, not at half-staff for Rememberance Day. I felt like an idiot for not spotting that myself. The manager fixed the flag while he was in the bathroom. I thanked him for alerting us and promised to check the rest of the plazas. I asked where he was heading and he was going to Paris Island, NC. That's about 20 hours on the road from that point in NY, wow, what a ride in good weather not to mention December!
On the way home, the rest of the NY Thruway plazas had the flag correct (most also had POW/MIA flags under the US flag). But, on my way back to Maryland, less than half I spied from the interstate were half-staff. I fear we are forgetting these type of events.
