Wait till your sidestand gets sticky. Trying to lower it when your boots are wet is a major pita. Never even thought that the issue would be raising it. What with a wide open target and such. When retracted the target is a medium sized ball bearing. A solution would be to rock the bike forward and let the ground lift the stand a bit for you. Then you should be able to reach the side stand with your boot to finish the lift process.
