Scott, in an attempt to boil all this down, here are the pertinent posts within this thread: snekeptp (first to mention Rally dates), Quote:
Chy, Di, you are wonderful people and truly great friends. I will be in GA this year and will, as most years in the past , take you to dinner on Sunday. Date TBD. Early May will be the norm. nothing will be asked of you, as this will be a stop on a trip , "not a rally" I will be stopping in GA and invite others to join me. We found a camp round owned by a British couple who will keep us rowdy triumph riders away from others. points of interest and maps may be provided , or not. simply follow another bike and you will find another great road. I am not going to a rally, I am going to see a friend! on my way to see another friend who lives near another friend, on my way to my aunts house!! any one want to stop by??? My friends live north of Atlanta, my relatives live south of Atlanta, and I intend to play golf with my uncle, and a 4th will be welcome. if there are a large group of golfers we may have an 8th. what ever works. I am thinking this will be a short stop possibly May 6,7,8
please voice your opinion
but please remember, you are only responsible for yourself. this is not an organized meeting. just a stop on a trip not to impose on any one.
PS, I will be towing my bike and sleeping in my car. unless I find a really, really cheap motor home/toy hauler.
please beat me down if I am out of line. but I am trying to relieve others. and provide an outlet for an addiction of southern mountains.
anybody? anybody? am I out of line?
Larry regarding a Rally Dinner
Quote:
It kinda sounds like the start of a plan. Rest assured I will join you for a "few rides". And even a day of Golf, Hmmm got back into that after a 16 year layoff, about 2 months ago. Never can tell might even find time to do a little 'smokin' (no not that kind, but the meat variety) just need a place to have a mini feast.
Shep1478,
Quote:
If there is going to be a 2011 get-together in early May, My wife and I could host a dinner at our facility (www.watersmill.com). I know my Dad (Larryshep) would be willing to smoke a ham and turkey! Due to date commitments at our facility, I think we'd only be able to host the Dinner on Thursday evening (ed. May 5th 2011 dinner), but our doors are open for all of you to come! And I'm sure we'd be able to talk my Mom into a few cakes as well!
I know it's early, but if we could get a date that I could block out on our calendar, that would be great.
Let me know!

Now that I have moved back from Arizona and live only 31 miles from Dahlonega, I find the Etowah River Campgrounds a nice camping option. I will be able to provide a 6x10 trailer for storage & security for distant riders, a big 3-4 person tent (unless my wife comes, I'll use the single), a popup 10x10 enclosed canvas shelter (maybe 2), A gas grill, 4-6 chairs (maybe 8) and I can bring a generator but the sites have electricity and water. I couldn't find if the campground offered showers. I will also be able to bring quite a bit of food and drink and coolers. If it is still on I am excited to hit the mountains. I have been up in them several times since I moved back East. I will be on my Tiger and leave the Bonneville America at home. Hope no one is offended. Will take May 5-9 off. It seems all plans are tentative. Hope things solidify.

Rally dates:
May 2011 Easy part: Rally concludes Saturday evening May 7th. As it has in the past, folks stay longer. Paul will be hosting his campsite through Monday May 9th. Rally begins whenever you roll into town.
Sketchy part: Officially, if we can get a confirmation from Jim and Larry about the Rally dinner then the Rally starts Wednesday evening (May 4th) on the square at Caruso's or Thursday morning (May 5th) should the Dinner be penciled in for Thursday evening.
Paul's dates for attendance are May 5-9 (Thursday through Monday). If you want to take advantage of his tent offer and/or security trailer.
SOOOOOOOO
We need to talk about rides.

Thursday May 5th (afternoon-evening) sounds good for dinner, I'm sure Jim (Shep1478) will chime in soon to confirm this. As usual, Cajun Ham, Turkey and Sausage, plus some of Kath's sweet stuff and I imagine a surprise from Jim as well.

Okay Boys and Girls.. Here we go.. Thursday, May 5th at Waters Mill we'll be hosting Dinner!! Of course the devil is in the details. My Dad will be smoking up a Cajun Ham, a Turkey and of course sausage! I'll smoke over hickory two pork butts which we'll pull. Buns will be provided too for those who'd like them. We'll serve up everything "Buffet Style" in our main dining hall. There will be sides too, but I haven't got that far into it yet. Sweet Tea and Water will be provided. We no longer have a pouring license for alcohol, but you're welcome to bring your own beer/wine. No Liquor Please. We have a back cooler in our bar area to keep em cold. Also, we have a nice 60" Flat screen that's connected on our Server, so I would **really** like for you to send me a disk of past rides here in North Georgia. We can copy all the images to our server and stream them up to the TV during dinner. PLEASE PLEASE send Disks to: Jim Sheppard Waters Mill 765 Guy Waters Road Dahlonega, GA 30533 I know we're a little ways out, but.. Keep in mind our lot is graveled, so you'll need to bring a Kick-Stand support. Hours: We're thinking running it from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. This will give everyone a chance to get in and have a chance to eat and socialize with everyone. The website is: www.watersmill.comOf course all of these are suggestions and nothing is really set in stone. I'm open to all ideas'!

Dang Jim, Sounds like I am riding up Wednesday. What an amazing venue you have for us Thursday! Should we crop the photos you are requesting to a 16:9 ratio? I sure hope the Adams family can dine on Thursday.

Di and I ran Wolf Pen today.. the things we do for you guys... jeez. Anyway, proud to report that it was a very nice run with very little gravel and though there are some rough spots, it was still a beautiful ride.
I'll be working Thursday and Friday May 5th and 6th so I won't make the dinner. Sucks to have to work for a living...

If you'd like to crop them, that'll be fine. I believe the server will accept them if they're not. I just want to have a slide show up playing in a loop for everyone while they're eating!
Thanks!

A lot of bourbon as I will be officially on furlough at midnight. Don't know what time I'm getting up but if any of you Georgians want to join me, give me a ring on my cell 8504998563 in the AM

Well, I'm officially out. Knee surgery scheduled for April 21, so probably won't be on the bike for a little while. Two years in a row missing the Georgia Rally/not-a-rally sux. You all have fun at this (non)Rally! I wish I could make it down there this year. Will

Hey Newt, are you coming this year? Sure hope so. thinking agbout that I would really like to know how many will attend, especially the Thursdey evening dinner. It will give me an idea of how big a ham and turkey plus cajun sausage to cook. For reference I usually use about an 18 lb fresh ham, a 18-20 lb turkey (they cook for about 18 hours) plus about 5-6 lbs of cajun sausage. Do we need 2 or 3 cakes. Would hope for at least 20 people. Perhaps someone will start a list of people planning to attend.
