This is a topic I always find interesting. You see Bill, in many (perhaps not all but many) cases adding a windshield makes matters worse. Case in point, the buffeting you pointed out when you mounted a shield on that 550 Honda. And it's not the windshield's fault really... what I mean by that is you can switch to another shield of a different size and proportion, and still end up with that nasty buffeting.
I run with a Memphis Shade Big Shot. Like Al, I love the quick release aspect of it. But to fix the wind turbulence problem I added lowers as well. There have been many discussions on shields and lowers so rather than type it all out again, have a look at this thread for more info.
