Well, looks like I have the chance to go to Ireland in April next year. Will be in Dublin area for a couple days, and other than that, need suggestions!!!!!
My niece qualified for the World Championships in Irish Dance!!!
Looking for fun, not just touristy stuff, inexpensive lodgings, maybe a day or two (at least) on a motorbike!!
So, give me what you got!!
Becky

Becky,

1) Plan to ride in the rain.
2) Talk with people--brush-up on your Irish.
3) Visit the Guinness Brewery.
4) Visit some distilleries. They are many.
5) Take trip to the Cliffs of Moher, then up to Galway. Have some fresh oysters.
6) If you're doing #5, visit the village of Toormakeady on the Western Shore of Lough Mask about an hour north of Galway. Ask for John Connelly (pronounced KEN-EEL-LEE), the schoolmaster. You can probably find him at what was called Paddy's Pub back in 1997 (the name may be different now) if school is not in session. Remind him of the Yank who played fiddle for him and Mrs. Connelly one rainy afternoon in September of that year. Give him my regards and hoist a pint with him!

Have a great time!

Take me with you

Keep travelling west till ye come to gods own country. "where is that?" I hear you ask "Scotland" of course.

Nah enjoy yourself, avoid eating and drinking in Dublins O'Connell Street like the plague or make sure you can really hike up those credit card bills.

Some of the smaller places around Trinity University are a lot cheaper.

I cannot decide whether to be a good example or a horrible warning ! Peace & respect http://www.tomcc.org/gg/ Eric

Ireland it great and Dublin is a lot of fun. A great walking city. Be prepared to drink early and often.
We found eating in pubs is the way to go. Friendly, inexpensive and lots of good food. Plus you'll be in a bar!

If you stay in Dublin, you won't run out of things to do. It all depends how much time you have.

Just my 2 cents, they can keep the Cliffs of Moher. It was beautiful, but a huge tourist destination crawling with people. What a shame.

As far as riding in Ireland, if you've never driven there you might want to give that another thought. The roads in Ireland will be quite a bit different that what you're used to in AZ.

Have fun and have a great trip.

Spent three weeks there in September - circumnavigated the whole country

Dublin is great - visit Temple Bar for the bars and atmosphere - lots of good sights and restaurants. Between the get-on/get off siteseeing buses, the local tram and the DART, an easy city to get around. Waaaay friendly.

Be sure to go to the south and west - Kinsale on the south coast and Dingle on the Dingle Pensinsula should not be missed. Especially Dingle - 3000 people and 15 pubs. Go to John Benny Moriarty's for great food and live music. In Galway go to the Latin Quarter - a 17th century pedestrian precinct filled with more good food and music - try Nectain's Bar.
And Kilkenny - great little city in the middle of the south. But I wouldn't bother with Derry (Londonderry for the British) again.
Don't be afraid to drive in Ireland - except Dublin - light traffic with good manners. The west has sensational motorcycle roads, but I would save them for a later trip as April might be wet, and there's that whole "driving on the left" thing - easier to remember when you have a steering wheel to look at. Don't use a cell phone while driving - automatic 1000 euro fine.
All in all, a wonderful and friendly country to visit - just like Canada !
And Guiness is not the best Irish beer - Murphy's is !!!!

Have a fabulous trip,
Pedro
