My riding buddy sold out and dumped his rice burner for a "HARLEY" !!!! We went out for the first time yesterday and I am going to have to spring for a tach. I had trouble with all the noise trying to figure out if the America was running or not !!! Still a lot of color here, but we won't be seeing any wildlife on our rides now !!

Yeah, just ride in front... but watch your mirrors closely so you'll know when he breaks down.

I have to let him lead or I'm always losing him in the twisties. We do have two way radios for our longer rides so he can call me when he needs help, plus we're always stopping for gas. 38mpg! I may get a hip flask and sip a little antifreeze while I wait

you didn't kick him in the butt for not getting a Triumph.

He'll have to go inside the gas stations to pay for the fuel n get coffees because you'll be outside at the pumps talking to the never ending line of old geezers asking"do they still make those?"
Before the war on terror, if I saw an unattended package I used to think "I'll be having that!"

Well L.W., I suppose IF your buddy already has the doo-rag AND the leather vest, then it just makes sense for him to make the next step, RIGHT???!!!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

be careful Steve I have been repremanded for using those profanity replacemnet symbols.
Harleys are over rated and over priced. If he got one of those twin cams at 18000 mile when it needs major work. you can ride by his house every day and say hey man wanna ride. He'll say my bike is in the shop. you can say really mines not.

Re the price of Harleys and Triumphs. In Australia we find it hard to understand the the considerable difference with our dollar being so close to the US dollar. Some one has to be making a very good mark up unless our govt is slamming them with import duties etc?????

When I was looking at cruisers, my missus told me I could have whatever I wanted as long as it wasn't a Harley. What does that tell ya. And she didn't have any idea how over rated they were. I actually don't mind them but the attitude of so many of the riders, makes me laugh. I mean, how much are they paying for a badge cos they aren't paying that much for a quality bike.

Gotta agree with you there Stacka, Hardly riders around here are mostly up them selves big time. You get the occasional friendly ones but in general they think that they are better than everyone else and thier excrement dont stink. Honestly, I have never owned a Harley and dont think I ever will, not because I dont like the bikes but because I dont like the general attitude that people who are associated with them have. Also they are everywhere and I like to be different.

I dont have that problem here in mighty Texas. Most of the guys I ride with are harley riders. Its that they are so common, and not really better quality than other bikes. plus they cost twice the cash.
The only Harley snobs I meet are wannabes or squids not realy bikers, and don't know poop from shoe shine about bikes. If they did they would know that triumph was the first to produce motorcycles. They also buy a bike with out even concidering what kind of riding they want to do, and end up laying it down in a twisty somewhere. Then the news report comes out and bikes are demonized again. Last but not least they dress like they are in a catalog photo shoot. This is the way of the squid though they ruin everything by pretending instead of learning.

I've owned about 50 cars and 30 motorcycles in my life including about 10 or 12 Triumphs, I have 3 Triumphs now. I have a killer full custom Fat Boy. It is the best piece of machinery I've ever owned. I've never had a problem in 13 years and 55,000 miles. I have experienced almost universal admiration for every Triumph I've ever ridden by each Harley rider I've ever encountered. I think that what happens is a rider will choose a Triumph for intelligent reasons while another will choose a Harley "because everyone else has one" making it much easier to find a dope on a Harley, and the larger # of Harley riders increases that figure further. I've seen some dissing of Japanese bikes for a perceved "lack of soul" but never a Triumph.

Most jap bikes have no soul. They are steril and ugly with lots of plastic to increase the uglyness. Nothing like a bunch of angular plastic to get that "low budget 80's future movie" affect. I do have to admitt though, an old school early 70's Honda cb 550 is a cool looking bike.

There are two types of Harley guys, the ones who are secure enough to check out your bike because they are motorcyclists and appreciate the history and uniqueness of a Triumph, and the ones who pretend not to notice but can't help checking out your ride out of the corner of their eye so their buddies don't see them.
I actually enjoy going to HD open houses to demo Harleys. They're good bikes and fun to ride. Just like my trumpet a lot better. And its paid for!

I have to agree with Paul, I know quite a few HD riders and most that know anything about anything like Triumphs and more often than not owned one at one time or another. I have also met idiots on HD and I think Paul is right here too. They are so common now that you are bound to find a greater proportion of jerks riding them. My friends Night Train never missed a beat either and he abused that thing. My other friend rode mostly Panheads and he built them and maintained them. Those bikes always ran fine too. He had a 50 EL that he used to ride with me when I had my BMW R50 out and that bike never missed a beat either. Only thing was he had to repolarize the charging system once in a while.
