Hey Ian, are your dogs actually alive... I dont think ive ever seen a dog that wouldnt chase a chipmunk or other furry fun critter, and at your old house didnt you have any neighbors that lived across the street, you said all the dogs in the neighborhood would visit and visa verse, that would put your dogs in the street... People get very defensive about this subject, especially the people who do let their dogs loose..i have alot of customers who said my dogs never leaves the property, but those dogs are no longer with us, and that kid must have been teasing my dog for him to run out there and bite him, or that guy had no right to shoot my dog even if he was on his property.
Ive herd all the lines, i have been dealing with dogs and their owners for 25 years.
Bottom line is people need to take responsibility for their actions, if your dog causes an accident its YOUR fault not the dogs, what if someone died in that accident, i wouldn't want to live with that...
Maybe you can guaranty your dogs NEVER, EVER leave your property but most people cant make that statement.
If i ever go down on my bike because of a dog in the road, the owner really needs to hope that i cannot get up and make it to their house right then, there's a strong possibility they'd get a beating right on their front lawn. I know me pretty well, and have seen me do things like that...
It was a blanket statement, but people who let their dogs run loose more than likely will have or cause problems.

Nope, woods and swamp across the street from my old house. All the houses there belonged to 1 family except the one I rented from their grandmother. There was a big tunnel under the road behind my house that lead to the swamp and woods and my dogs used to go through there and play in the woods. Junkyard and woods behind that house on the side away from the road. The tunnel was for a stream the emptied out of the swimming hole behind my house.

My dogs are very much alive but they have no interest in chasing anything alive. They know the boundries of where they are allowed to go. Done it my entire life, even my grandparents dogs ran loose. We never had 1 issue from it. My dogs are only outside when I am, why they don't chase things I don't know. I didn't train them that why but all they do is look and watch with a curious look and ears up. I have seen them watch rabbits and deer and I mean these critters were within a couple feet but my dogs didn't really care. I watch and yell when they get to the boundry of where I allow them to go and after a short time they just know and there is no need for any shock devices or anything like that. If my dogs did go near the road or beyond the edge of my yard they would no longer be loose. I take them to bluegrass festivals and they don't run off there either. Now if a giant hamberger ran across the back yard they would probably chase it. It is training and they know the sound of my voice and when I mean business. I don't hit my dogs either except a swat on the butt if they disobey, and I mean a swat not repeated blows. They also get a reward every time they go outside and behave. When they come back in they get a bone, they get one every time now. When I was training them they didn't always get that reward.

As for attacking me on my turf, not a good idea crash or no crash.First, remember the 2 pitbulls? They wouldn't like it. 2nd I'm armed.

EDIT: Actually now that I think about it all I have is woods across the street from my house here too.
