Anyone got any ideas? I'm looking for bands, albums, songs, that have that similar feel to "(Dont Fear) The Reaper". Mainly the first 2.5 minutes.
Theres a little nostalgia enducing thing going on in there. And I need more or something thats usually handed out in small doses.
And I'm NOT talking about cowbell jokes...haha

The world was blessed when there came out only one song that sounds like don't fear the reaper

Alright motorat, jet air liner was way off..haha..sorry.
The things that make the reaper...
-multi-vocal harmonies -clean reverby guitar chords being plucked -drummer in a straightfoward beat using the ride cymbals for "the wash" -warm/vintage recording production
We're trying to lean more toward "California Dreamin" and less toward Iron Butterfly, if that helps.
I'm surprised Keith Mountain Man isnt all over this thread. I guess he's too busy making birthday threads?

Hmmmm, well Tom....THAT pretty much sums up every song Boston ever recorded, doesn't it?!
And maybe you might delve into the Crosby, Stills and Nash(and Young sometimes) catalog too, eh?!

And speakin' of CSN&Y and the intro of "(Don't Fear)The Reaper"... While the following suggestion is a little less up tempo than that Blue Oyster Cult song, is it just me or does the intro of CSN&Y's "Ohio" sound more than just a little similar here.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SswXJX6X-ow

alright Keith, that white bird song was scaring me at first when it came on, but dam?....it sure did turn into a epic song towards the end. Wish it was a bit more balanced though. Dwight, Crosby Stills, etc. was definately the closest to the feel of the reaper. I'm gonna have to get some more of that stuff in the future. And Beamer came through with the band "dear mr. fantasy" by the band "traffic". Not quite the reaper, but a really good song. I recommend it highly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_nwbTeIN4Y STILL CANT FIND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR!?!? Anyone else?

Well Soren its good to have an opinion. I really can't put the word awesome and Boston in the same sentence unless you can make it mean awefull. Again its good to have opinions

Yeah Soren, I suppose many of Boston's songs do sound very similar alright, however because this one here came out on their second album, if they would have stopped after only one, then I wouldn't be able to crank up the volume on my truck radio every time they play it on the radio....even though, yep, they DO play this one a whole lot, but somehow I never get tired of listening to it....

Now there's a BAND!!
How about the Doobie Brothers... pretty much any song. And going back further... Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane was one of the best albums EVER!!
White Rabbit

Jefferson Airplane/the Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship, 30 years and they only had two decent songs, "White Rabbit" and "Somebody to Love". In 1983, Agent Orange did an awesome cover of "Somebody to Love" which is 87 times better than Jefferson Arirplane's original version. Agent Orange also did a great cover of Johnny Rivers' "Secret Agent Man" which has also been covered by Devo, The Plugz, Blues Traveler, Laurie Anderson, Cinecyde and Bruce Willis. Bruce Willis made four Die Hard movies. In Die Hard 2, his wife is on an airplane.

mert's picks are way off Its a shame about Boston..haha...oh man
Some of those songs are really good, just not anywhere close to the reaper.
Crosby Stills...etc...is a close feel.
I havent listened to White Rabbit in a bit, I'm not sure if its the correct answer though.
this search could be its own website, good god.
