Thunderbike pipes sound ****** without the baffles. i removed them for the same reason and ok they were louder but resonating off the large diamater pipe made them sound like a virago i knew once. i ended up removing the long peice off pipe towards the header, drilled out the holes in the baffle and repacked the fibreglass. now they are louder but the note is still not right so still expirimenting. you do need to remove the mounting bracket to get the baffles out.
