Tonight I was lucky enough to be the emcee for a variety show put on by the students in our high school orchestra. Varied levels of skill and talent were on display in instrumental music, singing , and dancing. What struck me was not just the talent and courage on display (one young lady froze up mid-song and left the stage in tears, but came back 3 acts later and did her whole song) but the level of support and courtesy the kids showed each other. No heckling the lesser talents, no jeering at the mistakes and recoveries, just honest appreciation and applause for what it takes to get up there on the stage and lay it on the line.

It was humbling; and gives one a glimmer of hope for our future. They even laughed at some of my jokes!

Thom I might be wrong, I sometimes am.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

There are Zenists in our midst. I mean we're riders... some of us quite seasoned and we understand the Zen thing. Well, ummm... listen, it's in the experience of being part of the machine. Aaaah, I'm not making myself clear, so read this passage from one of John's blog entries.

"The four of us blazed a trail through the twisties, occasionally stopping to allow the rest of the party to catch up. My bike was just singing with the bark of the specialty spares exhaust bouncing off the cliff walls and the concrete barriers separating the road from the lake below, as well as harmonizing with the exhaust notes of the other riders in my group as our RPMs rose and fell together. It was…well, as close to a Zen state as I’ve ever been."

Ya see what I mean?

I know exactly what you mean, Keith.
(And glad you had that guidance through that close call!)

Thanks for sharing that with us Tom. Appreciate the personal glimpses the girls and gals on this site share into their lives. MC eh..... And the students allowed it.....

This site just went up another notch in the quality department. Made my day
