Ok, I got my policy renewal today and wondered if anyone can answer my questions,I seem to remember a member here was in the insurance field?

Correct me if I am wrong but "Uninsured motorist" coverage is BS for anyone who has their own heath insurance? If you were hit by an under-insured/uninsured driver the repairs to the bike are covered under your comprehensive/collision portion of your policy and bodily injuries would be covered by your heath insurance,correct?

It seems like my insurance company is trying to sell me extra coverage that I don't need(at least in my case where I have heath insurance).

I am asking to make sure I have my facts strait. Its about $100 more a year for the extra coverage,I don't mind paying if its worth having but I don't need double coverage.

I am In NV and I know insurance requirements vary state to state.

I could be wrong, but I beleive that health insurance may not cover you if you'r in an auto accident...the offending party's liability coverage would be on the hook.

your health insurance usually has a lifetime max of 1 million, some might have gone up to 2 million but with today's costs that is not a lot of coverage for a lifetime. and then your health insurance wouldn't cover your passenger. I believe it is required in some states, wisconsin being one.

Can you really ever have too much insurance? The way they try to screw everyone over, being double covered may be just enough...

Yeah, someone here said that when they had a severe mc accident the uninsured motorist portion of their policy even covered time off from work and lost wages. That being said, I cancelled mine for the same reason you mentioned, because I have health insurance from work and it lowered my premium quit a bit. I'm not sure it was the smartest thing I've ever done. I may have my agent put it back on the policy at some point.

GET THE UNINSURED MOTORIST. Its a must they will use any loop hole they can to not cover you.

OK Bill, uninsured/under insured motorist covers you but not your vehicle for damage. Not just the medical bills but pain and suffering, lost work time, disability, etc. Basically the same things the other guy's liability insurance would cover if he had any.

When I had my accident back in June I found out (the hard way) that I didn't have medical coverage on the bike. I thought I had the coverage, like I do on all my cars, but State Farm does not, and will not, provide it for motorcycles in Georgia. However, they never bothered to inform me of that when I got the bike.

Luckily, my health insurance did cover the costs. So you folks may want to be sure that your motorcycle insurance covers you in an accident. If not you may also want to check with your health care provider. Bills add up quickly, and, unless you're independently wealthy, it may be worth the extra few bucks to be sure you have some medical coverage.
