Your bike is excellent. I've had pics of stashed in my favorite bikes folder. What kind of pipes are those? I really like the tips and how long they are. ~Brent

Thanks guys. The pipes are Specialty Spares long cannons. I got the billet tips and had them powdercoated black.

Unfortunately they're not. My rear tire is just about worn out too so I'll have to find a replacement for next year, not sure what I'm gonna do. I think Dunlop makes a WWW in the sizes we need.

yeah I guess we'll both be riding dunlops. Sucks cause the maxxis whites are a little bigger on the sidewalls than the dunlop.

One of the first bikes that had me drooling when I joined this site.I personally don't think you can beat spokes and white walls I am on my second set of dunlop www. Have not been able to fault them as yet, under any riding condition. K555 - 170/80/15 - rear K177 - 120/90/18 - front Keep those pics coming.
What it can't reach it spits at.

Sweet, I dig the spokes and white walls, Very cool bike. I have the same solo peg plates, I run mine upside down, they look more natural to me that way.

A very nice example of an America Scott. Love the one of the front wheel outside of the florist. The white walls really suit your bike. I'm just amazed how individual all the bikes are on this forum. They might be all the same when they roll out of the Hinckley factory but that's where it stops and customising starts.

All the more amazing is the variety when you consider there still NINE YEARS LATER there are still hardly any accessories (compared to other brands) out there. Human ingenuity knows no bounds.

Great look bike. What do you use to clean the chain lube off the white walls? Sorta entertaining the thought of putting WW on my bike.

Thanks for the compliments guys!
John- That's my favorite pic too, I wish I could take credit for it. Dave (roadworthy) took that pic at the first Midwest Rally. I have it set as the background on my computer.
Eddie- Westley's Bleeche-White works awesome, but it's still a PITA to do. I try to go easy on the chain lube, but the brake dust still gets them plenty dirty.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to comment on what a great lookin' bike you have, Scott! (...I guess that is what's so nice about Friar John startin' this whole "Spotlight" bike thing...it gives me a chance to notice stuff like this months later and after I was probably too preoccupied crackin' jokes and otherwise sidetrackin' threads in the Lounge!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Nice bike Scott!!!
I couldn't have come across these posts at a better time. I just picked up my first bike and it's an '03 America and I love it! But... she needs new tires. Your pictures only validated that white walls are gorgeous on these bikes.
So, I've been trying to hunt some WWW's down but all I've seen so far are the 120/90/18 Dunlop K177's. I saw some talk about possibly having to extend the fender or the tire rubbing.
Does anyone have any input or guidance on putting 120/90/18's on an '03 America? I'm dying for some WWW's on her.
Thanks!

You don't need to extend the fender if you don't want, you could cut the middle out of the mounting bracket and then the fender will hug the tire nice and close
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

I also raised my front fender up similar to what Keith did. At first I cut the mounting bracket like Dave suggested, and it looked really good, but at higher speeds the tire expanded and rubbed the fender. After that I went ahead and raised it up. No problems since.

Excellent looking Bikes, thanks for the pics. Your right Davo the white walls do look good with spoked wheels. I personally think and I suppose I am bias that the older Americas look better all round. Glad I managed to get one.

994? Oh my. I want to do head and carbs, as much as finances will allow. I may have to do head one year, carbs the next, we'll see. I tell ya though, the way the 904 feels right now, I'm pretty stoked.

Ok, forgive me for showing off...no, wait...that's what this forum is for right? At work the other day a friend/coworker took a pic of my bike with his really nice camera. I thought it turned out great. Not much of a scenic background or anything, but I was impressed.

Rear is Metzeler, Front is Maxxis right now, but they're discontinued, Dunlop is the only brand out there now in this size. Word on the street is that they will not be making them anymore either. For the front you have to go up in size to a 120/90.

Thanks man. I don't know why they stopped offering the spokes. I think it's such a classic look that just fits these bikes.
