The work day having reached an end on a rather sour and too typical note I head for home on my usual commute.
I'm on a stretch that goes about 7 miles along a railroad track on the left, no stops. Intersection on the right, car waiting to turn left and and SUV creeping past them on the right. I'm doing about 45, start slowing - they don't. I lay on the horn and slow down some more - the SUV keeps on, and pulls in fron of me. I've kept on the horn - after what seems like 10 seconds I finally get a shrug out of the driver.
Yeah, like you didn't see those three bright lights up front or hear that continuously screaming horn. Not really a dangerous situation, but only because it was predictable - had I been relying on her to actually stop at the stop sign, respecting my right of way...
Both of us heading down the road, I've got about a typical following distance - more than most give. When the white work van behind me crosses the double yellow and floors it, passing both me and the SUV. At this point I'm figuring election day brought out all the nuts - then the van starts slowing way, way down, almost to a stop - the driving half climbs out of his window, turning back to the SUV and screams, "YOU DUMB SON OF A..." (you can probably figure out the rest). Then continues driving down the road.
Can't say I can condone the illegal pass, etc., or that it was necessary - I think the looooong horn blast left little doubt what I thought about her driving. Definitely not what I was expecting.

you should take two or three staneless nuts with you when you go riding (they dont have to be big 3/4 or so) then you can really express yourself. A sudden pass, a little toss and away we go. That'll wake you in the morning.

I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

I had a similar experience a little while back, except in my version the white van was a guy on a Goldwing...

too bad we dont have 3 arms. with 2 arms it is impossible to honk your horn, throttle, and flip the bird all at once!

"honk your horn, throttle, and flip the bird all at once"
is that multi-tasking.
If it isn't broke, I haven't messed with it.
