I have BUBs on my 04 Speedy, AI snorkle removed. I get about 36 mpg, is that about right? How in the hell do 117 cu in engines get ~ 44 mpg??? How can I get more mpg on mine?

In stock configuration, my '02 BA used to get 44-45 mpg. But, as is the case with most of us, I had 'the need for speed.' So, after all my mods, I now get about 35 mpg. To put this in perspective: gas is about $2.50 per gallon. At the most, we might buy 4 gallons at a time. That's 10 bucks. The difference between 35 mpg and 45 mpg is 40 miles. The difference in cost is $10 (at 45 mpg) or $11.43 (35 mpg). The grin on my face with the increased performance is well worth that extra $1.43, at least to me, and I'd wager for most everyone else, too. My BA is currently in the shop getting the Weisco big bore treatment. If its as good as Dinqua claims, I don't care if I drop to 20 mpg!

I go about 120 miles and refill.
I have no idea what my mileage is and frankly, don't care.

Which 117 cu in engines are you talking about and how do you know they get 44mpg?

Go to the 18 tooth front sprocket. Install the Nology coils and wires. I average between 40 and 45 mpg depending on how I am riding.

I have BUBS, FREAK, jetted and went from about 50 mpg to anywhere from 40-48 mpg with an 18 tooth front sprocket. It all depends on how I ride and how much I work that thing I have to twist to make'er GO. I use the mid range gas instead of the premium. Setup and how you ride has a lot to do with it. My brother has a Big Dog, one bad machine with a 6 speed trans and he gets somewhere around 60 mpg go figure

Recreational riding, I get mid to upper 30s, straight highway riding I get more, like on the way back from Pat's I was amazed how much less I had to fill up.

With Epco pipes and all the snorkles removed, I get around 42 - 45 MPG (us galons) on streets, 45 to 50, occasionally up to 53 when I keep it between 60 and 70 MPH, highway. Interestingly, the OL on her fuel injected Lowrider with V&H pipes and high flow intake is always within 1 - 2 MPG when we ride together.

I get around 38 - 40 with my setup, although I have to say that last summer I didn't keep track of mileage like I did the summer before. I went to Wyoming a couple summers ago and got right around 50 mpg on a trip through Yellowstone Park. I thought I had miscalculated, but I got the same on a second tank. I finally realized that Minnesota has 10% ethanol in almost all unlead regular. I think Wyoming's gas was/is 100% gasoline. That was the difference.
