True Story - When I was a kid in rural Oklahoma we had party lines(we were on an 8-party line) , you had to listen for your "ring" . (Ours was tow(2) longs and a short) so of course when the phone rang late at night everyone picked up the phone to listen ( we had to look out for our neighbors
) On the other end was Mr. Teehee calling from the county jail , he was telling his wife they had arrested him for driving drunk and he didn't understand because he had a "da*# good drivers license !)
