Lost the founding slit, Ari-up. Sad, at the young age. Though I preferred the Americanized version better, (Cherie, Sandy, Jackie, Lita, and Joan), She will surely be missed. I'm taking a break to play some albums now. RIP Ari.

I was first introduced to Ari & Paloma in the mid seventies, while I was lead singer & rythem guitarest for a alternative garage band in Lakeland, FL., heavily influenced by John Lydon, Paul Cook, and Americans David Johansen, Johnny Thunders, and Syl Sylvain. The girls followed in the same circle, only over the pond. They, along with the Runaways from America, were the only "girl" bands that we really followed and respected for their genuine "commitment'' to the lifestyles we lived. I lost track of ALL of them decades ago, though I was aware that Ari was ill for a while. I don't know WHAT she died from, or if it was even related to her illness, BUT SHE WAS A WONDERFUL PERSON/ARTIST, and I for one feel sad. She was several years younger than I, and was raisin' he11 and makin' waves @ 13. Yea, the skills weren't polished, probably called sh1t by many, as was our band. BUT WE WOULDN'T HAVE HAD IT ANY OTHER WAY.

Thanks for posting this Erle. I didn't know the band but I found what you said and what I found on the net to be very interesting. And yes, like all good people, may she R.I.P.

Now John, isn't it sad that you didn't know her?

I saw that pic too Bill, when I was trying to figure out who she was. The article said she was also known as Medusa.

Love that mid/late 70's punk thing. More a buzzcocks/pistols fan,but still sad to see her go.

It's always the tough guys that come in here causing trouble, stirring things up, disrespecting this site and this community. I could sit here and start listing the names but I don't have that kind of time. I see the word "slit" on a thread and I have to start with the assumption that it could be something offensive under the guidelines of the AUP. So I have to investigate. Then I catch he||? Not going to rollover and be a doormat. The owner and the former administrator basically quit this site because of people like you. They let the jackwagons get under their skins. That's not going to work with me. I've invested way too much time and energy into this site, and created dozens if not hundreds of awesome friendships as a result (real friendships in the real world, not just online), to let myself get derailed like that. I'm very protective of this community. So keep it up, sport. Eventually you're going to cross the line. Your kind always does. I'm not mad, I've just seen it before. It all balances out in the long run.

Dang, guys. I re-read my post a couple of times and just can't see how anyone would think I was dissin' anybody for a lack of knowledge or taste for the things I personally like. I was only sharing something that took me back several decades to my "miss-spent youth", and passing on the word that a person I loved (and others MAY have known) has passed away in an untimely manner. No, she wasn't John Lennon, or Jimmy, or Janis, BUT she was a young women who passed away @ 48! No, she wasn't the same person she was back in the seventies, neither am I, but she ventured further then I did, or many of us have. I will miss her, MANY others will miss her, her mother will miss her, and apparently, even a few of you have recognized her, and now know she's gone. I never thought about the post title, hindsight being what it is, I could have wrote SOMETHING different. I'll keep that in the back of my mind next time I start a thread. (I TOTALLY see the point from a Moderators point of view) But again, NO disrespect intended toward anyone.
And you may see me tonight

Erle... I understand the sentiments you so graciously shared with the rest of us, and I appreciated learning about an artist I didn't even know. If anyone misconstrued your posts as antisocial in any way, well I'm not sure how that could happen. As for the title you used... I guess you could have capitalized the 's' in 'slit' to make it stand out as a name, that being the name of her band. Otherwise the title of this thread stands as a true representation of the content you posted.
I believe some members here might be getting a bit edgy due to a certain friggin' a$$hat of a troll hangin' around here who seems to gloat in the aftermath of upsetting a perfectly healthy community. This might have contributed to any misunderstanding pertaining to you.
As for this thread of yours, I thank you for posting it and totally understand how the untimely death of Ari Up IS upsetting to you and many others I am sure. Again, may she R.I.P.
Live to love, love to live.
