A quick question - what size wrench do I need to remove the spark plugs on a Speedmaster?
Thanks.

18mm? Are you certain? It looks a lot smaller than that.

18mm confirmed. I use a Craftsman deep well 18mm socket.

make sure you get the craftsman deep well 6 point thin walled socket. Most other sockets will not fit. Craftsman does. CLICK HERE FOR A LINK

Actually, there is a Craftsman 18 mm SPARK PLUG socket with the rubber doohickey inside. Look for that instead of a generic tall socket. I bought mine last Friday off the rack at Sears and it fits fine.

That's useful info, thanks.
Can anyone tell me who stocks Craftsman tools in the UK, or can anyone tell me of a brand that is easily available in the UK that will work?

I've done a bit more digging. 18mm plug sockets are often labelled as 12mm sockets, (at least in the UK - not sure if it's an international thing) I think because 12mm is the thread diameter.
As suggested above, a normal plug socket will not fit, as the wall is too thick.
Triumph sell a special plug socket for the Speedmaster (Part Number 2300107-T0301), which I've ordered. The cost is £13, compared with about £3 for an off the shelf plug socket.

I bought a Craftsman 18mm deepwell thinwall socket and then bought a really cheap spark plug socket. I removed the foam insert from the cheapo and put it in the 18mm.

My regular 18mm deep well Craftsman socket fits. I didn't have to buy a thin wall socket. YMMV

Yep, it's sad. The original owner of my bike bought the filter wrench, believe it was close to $20. You can get them at any auto parts store for $5.
