Here's additional information for those of you who actually know something about this topic and tried to help... (oh, snap)
I got my water test back and I'm at a whopping 11.6 grains. What's the threshold? Seems like a pretty low number from what I've read. I'm about to the point where I'm just going to bag the water softening for now and just see how often the tankless water heater needs servicing. If it's particularly annoying, say every few months, maybe I'll revisit the water softener issue. And my buddy Gene is getting about double the grains I am but he's on a well. He's likely to get one of these voodoo non-salt machines so I'll see how well it works on his water.
