Okay, well I must be nuts! I picked up my bike on Saturday. They replaced the CPU, CPI, Black Box, Computer thingy, whatever it's called and said everything seemed to be working just fine. I rode her home Saturday without I hitch. Couldn't get back on her until Monday late afternoon.
After a half a day of thunderstorms I got out on the road and was having a great ride. Then as they tend to do, the clouds rolled in really fast and I was caught in a pretty good rain. And here's where I must be nuts. WHAT A BLAST! Maybe it was the joy of riding my bike without a breakdown, maybe it was because it was 70 degrees in February and the rain felt kind of good. Maybe it was just that I'm nuts, but it was great!
Put a few miles on her, stopped off for a few errands, and she started back up!!!! A first for me.
I can't say that I have total confidence in her yet. I guess the sound of that starter just brings up too many memories of being stranded on the side of the road without only the sound of that screetching starter to keep me company. But man, that was the first time I've been able to ride her without the thought of breakdown completely on my mind and I really enjoyed it. Diving into turns like most cruisers could only dream! Even got her out on the interstate for the first time. She wasn't as stable as I would have liked, but not overly nerve racking! I suppose there are some trade offs to agility.
God willing, I'll be up and running for a while. Please keep your collective fingers crossed for me and once I get passed 200-300 miles post-repair work, I'll finally feel comfortable enough to start dumping some customizing money into her!
