Wether they accurately detect the laser (almost impossible as a laser emits a tiny dot which would have to be right on the sensor for it to work) is irrelevant. As Angelis pointed out, even if it DOES successfully detect the laser/radar gun it's too late, you've already got the ticket. It's not like the old days where a radar would emit a huge wide-band signal that you could pick up before it worked out your speed. It all happens in a second or two these days, no way you can slow down that fast.
