The needs may be subjective.
On a long-distance run (my kind), a less stressed (less buzzing) engine and a more planted bike is not a case of perception.
For that purpose/needs you can be sure it's an upgrade.


EDIT: Bill, on reading your post again I think you got my point covered by your phrase "getting one that better suits your needs may well be an upgrade".
