We like it that way. Makes people wonder what we know that they don't.
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

I think Todd has taken the America vs. Speedmaster debate to a new level. Or, he needs spellcheck.

Yep, Steve! I dare say it takes a lot o' "balls" to even suggest that the Speedmasters are somehow superior to the originals!
(...the "originals" would, of course, be the Bonneville Americas)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Because Triumph, even though it is the best bike on the planet, they treat it (and the America) as the red-headed step children of the Triumph line up. Plus, they sell evey single one they build, so why push advertising when there really isn't a whole lot of need to.

Could also explain the dearth of used speedmasters out there?

My guess is that it's probably the demographic of the buyers, Todd.
Older, "established" riders usually hold on to their motorcycles a lot longer than do younger consumers.

I'd agree with this. Also, what press I've seen about them shows more about the "it's not a traditional cruiser" attitude of the reviewer than what it says about the bike. In one 'shootout' review, they wrote "this thing devours corners" but then panned it as an "odd duck" because it didn't have a v-twin like the wannabe davidsons they ran it against (What?! A p-twin in a cruiser?!? A cruiser that likes twisties?!? That's just absurd!). As many innovations as there are in the motorcycle world every year, many people still have that "because that's the way it's always been done" attitude.

Careful. You start throwing around words like "dearth" around here and the jocks will give you a wedgie.

The America came out first.
Then they improved on it and called it a SPEEDMASTER.

So you would upgrade from an America to a Speedmaster

Cheers Al , My Speedmistress is an 07 model and I bought it on the 18th of Dec last year . It was a real lucky score and had been previosly owned by a lady who , after fitting $3000 worth of extras traded it in on a Yamaha . The Yamaha shop just wanted to clear the bike and I knew the salesman and got it for a bargain price . It was fitted with a windscreen and crashbars that I have since removed , It has running boards , saddlebags and a rear carrier back rest. It also has Harley bars fitted and I changed the original mirrors because they hung out the sides of an already wide set of bars . It has shorty pipes and I have stuck a white faced watch (that I filed the lugs off) on the tank panel ,right hand side below the tacho .

that sounds great...you could have spent loads of time and money getting those accessories on there. Just one question...why on earth would anyone in their right mind trade of of these in for a Yamaha?

Who knows why women do anything . When I got home I found the service books in the saddlebag with all the correct stamps on it and a receipt for $700 being a full service and two new tyres back and front . The bike had 18,000 klm on it and and was in great condition . It's coming up to 30,000 klm , in the eleven months that I've owned it I've done 12,000 klm on it and no problems . A little under - powered compared to my two other bikes but as a cruiser it does a good job.

Get rid of the AI if its not FI, get a K an N filter or a UNI, and bump up 2 on the jets at least. Plenty of stuff in the tech vault to get you in the right place. Ill bet that the dealer put the shorty pipes on and told her it wuld be fine, and as was stated above, these bikes like to REV. Use that gear box. 3rd and 4th are where the power are. I have my 05 Geared up one tooth on the counter shaft. I still have loads of power. and better MPG Cheers and enjoy.
