so my speedy gets 38mpg and it doesn't appear to matter how i ride. i did my comute, a really slow ride through wine country and blasts down the highway. the bike runs great with no popping and no stinky exhust. ai removed tors not sure about the jets.
should i expect better mpg my other 3 bonnies got about 45mpg.

If it isn't broke, I haven't messed with it.

I get 48-52 mpg w/ a 18 tooth front sprocket, AI and throttle sensor removed, Chevy 605 pipes, and a unifilter, usually about 60-80 mph

I get 50+ mpg on average. No city riding for me. Almost stock setup. 60-80 mph. Yours does sound kinda low.

Have a look at the spark plugs. They'll tell you if you're running rich or not pretty quick.

How's the exhaust? Is it black/sooty? Is it wet?

05 Speedmaster 865 engine:

Factory issue stock with international tune for emissions - 50 MPG with engine running so lean & hot that the outer pipes turned blue.

Engine now tuned for what is considered reasonable and customary optimum fuel to air ratio with a flat torque curve as dyno proved - 40 MPG average - high speed highway 30 to 35.

This is definitely the reason.
If you hit 6000rpm 3 times on the way to 60mph, you get
low 30's mph. When gas was it's most expensive, I actually
tried to get good gas mileage. Took 3 times as long to
get to 60mph. I got 46mpg.
I prefer to haul a$$.
