Anyone got any ideas how to get a louder horn?
I'm up here in Toronto, and I like the cop car horns as everyone tends to pay attention when they hear one.

I slapped a Stebel Nautilus in the place of the stock meeper. Used a small "L" shaped piece of Aluminum stock and laid the relay under the seat.  Stebel Nautilus at Bikerhiway

EDG1911, I see they sell with 2 different types of relay documentation, would you know the difference? and was it difficult in rewiring the new horn?

The horn came with a relay and when I bought it they had some deal where they threw in a "deluxe" wiring kit. It wires up pretty easy..old horn wires to relay and then relay wires to new power from batt etc etc. theres quite a few posts around here of different wire installs, it's been so long I'd have to look at where I wired mine into to be sure exactly how I did it. I'm pretty sure I just spliced into the harness under the seat to get the horn wire signal to the relay and then ran the wires out to the horn along the harness by the frame under the tank. Then power the relay from the batt term. I have a Thunderbird horn fitted on the same mount as the stock. Price was ~$35 and it is definitely louder than the stock. No fiddling around with a relay, fabbing special brackets, splicing, or running extra wiring.
Blue/White 2007 TBA, Thruxton needles, Unifilter, AI removed, Polaris Bellmouth, Bubs, Nology Coils/wires, Lightbar, Ricor Intiminators, Hagon Nitros, Tall Sissy Bar w/luggage rack, Dart flyscreen & Lowers. 130 Mains, TrueGel Battery MG12-BS.

I have the Stebel Nautilus on my bike and Wendy's bike too. Ours are mounted under the seat where the air box used to be. Ours came with the Relay too. I shopped around and if memory serves I found the best price at Scoot Works. Harbor Freight sells the Bad Boy that seems to be the same horn.

I've heard the plastichrome doesn't hold up well.

I have the Rivco air horns the same as Mountainman and they are excellent. nice and loud, really loud.

As loud as electrical horns will allow I'd suggest. If you want louder, why not tow a trailer with a compressor plugged into a portable generator for a set of air horns. You'd get "Freakin Loud" then. Only one gripe about the Stebels, the plastic body's a bit on the cheap side. I might do what Dog did and put mine under my seat. Isnt hindsight a wonderful thing ha ha

Stebel horn in the stock location. Mine is black and very unobtrusive. It will deafen you if you hit it in the garage.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. I have the loud pipes and the loud horn and there are enough A$$holes around herte and little girls on the phone to require both! As loud as my bike is it amazes me the people who still cut me off or pull out in front of me.

I( run totally gutted stock pipes, if you lived here they would cut you off all the time. Here they just do it, they hear you, they see you, they pull right out anyway. They will often then flip you off too. NYC drivers that live here and work there mostly that do it.

I am planning on adding a louder horn, but right now my loud pipes are my horn. I, like Ian, get the finger a lot, but I figure that means they can hear me. It's usually people on their phones who look the most annoyed. ~Brent

I'm back, yahoo!!!! and I'm tooting my own horn here! Get a LOUD HORN. Okay so some of you have loud pipes... but drivers are conditioned to respond to a horn, not exhaust. I have a loud horn and it wakes up the sleepiest. I use it to get people off the friggin' phone 'cause here at least, it's illegal to use a cell while driving. That stupid stock 'beep, beep' excuse-for-a-horn is just plain insulting... invest in a LOUD HORN and be safer.

Right on Staffo! And you know, trains have loud horns, big trucks have loud horns... I wonder why (not). Because it's IMPORTANT that they are heard!! Well, it's IMPORTANT that we are heard too!! Ha! I remember about a month ago I alerted a huge dump truck as to my presence. The driver didn't see me and proceeded to cut me off from my right of way. I hit the horn and that big ol' truck promptly and rightfully allowed me passage. We made eye contact and smiled after my bike let her presence known. That felt good!!

LOUD horns yes. The problem with loud pipes are the pipes face rearward. Not much worries about cagers behind you, but for those distracted by makeup cell phones you name it. Yet you have the control when in front, i.e., keeping them in your mirror you have the ability to accelerate swerve, etc. The dearest need for an attention grabber are for those cages in front of you. That said, loud pipes are effective attention devices for the cagers behind you. gives one another option other than steering, braking or stretching the throttle cables. Just love to down shift when in front a cell phone user. Down shift and maintain a safe leading distance! (about the only time I slow down  ) D&D's resonate in cages! A visceral experience from what my wife says... She will not drive behind me when the D&Ds are on.

I bought the louner horn from brent a few years back. im thinking of going with the auto zone low tone. I still dont think the one from brent is loud enough. My BUBB pipes are plenty loud from what a guy who was becide me and behind me said at work the day after.  AMAZING what loosing 1/2 of the baffel and a little fiberglass packing can do! he said it didnt even sound like a bike, said it sounded like a truck! LOLOLOL

I highly recommend a two-tone horn. Them's the ones that really get attention. Case in point... trucks and trains blast at least 2-tones but NEVER one. The extra tone(s) create a dissonance that really buzzes the ear. So, it's not just decibels... it's working with harmonics as well. Single note horns are simply... inferior!

I totally agree. I have a high tone Fiamm (& relay) waiting for installation to join the existing low tone, for the very reasons you said.

I am spoiled by the air horn I have on my 85 Ford F 150 truck. I installed it on the roof over my position and ran the air hose along the post to where I snaked it through the firewall. The compressor is mounted on the radiator frame and the air tank and such on the left fender interior portion. There is just so much room under the hood of this truck that the install was fast and easy.
Now if I could only find a smaller version of this to install on my Speedmaster. I figured that I would install the horns on the right saddle bag but the compressor and air tank need a substantial mounting and I am stumped.
I do not want to utilize all the interior space of the saddlebags nor the luggage rack. I want the sound but I just do not see how to get it done.
07 Speedmstr, Long Tors, bags, sissy bar and rack, windshield, engine bars, 2 ww lights, 2 fast eddy stickers and a .45 ACP.

Hey Dan, these RIVCO horns might work for ya.  There's a few of them listed here. One of them could be adapted to our bikes I'm sure.
