how do you guys like the lowers? i do get a lot of air up from under the bike w/ the memphis fats screen. no buffeting and great coverage from the shoulders up. there is a lot turbulence at my chest and below.

you know, i can hardley tell they're on your bikes. looks simple to install, too.

thanks,

cat

Sorry, but I honestly don't know yet. The friggin' winter hit before I had them put on (I hate winter). I'd be happy to tell you in another two months I guess, but others swear by them. Did I say I hate winter?

The lowers reduce the buffetting of my head from air coming up along the side of the tanks. I love them.

They took about 20 min. to install. Not difficult, but there are several pieces to get alligned. Be sure to test lock-to-lock movement of your fork before you tighten things down.

I moved the turn signals below the lightbar spots, and have Ma's crashbars. The lowers had to move down the fork leg to clear the turn signals and they just contact the crashbars.
Got mine based on Todd's research (thanks again Todd). If you get head buffet that decreases if you move your left arm across your chest, then the air is coming from around and below the tank and the lowers should resolve this. It seems to be prevalent with larger windscreens. I'd recommend them especially if you have a large windshield and do a lot of high speed highway travel.

i briefly tested out my lowers yesterday and they make a difference. now to fine tune them a little.
i'm going to bring them all the way up to the brace and experiment w/ forward backward movement.
i forgot my allen wrench and it's a different size than the tool kit one triumph so graciously gave us. today i'll play w/ them some more...

they look pretty good.

this might be old news, but i thought i'd mention it. i realized i could move the lowers up closer to the fats windshield by swaping the lowers brackets so the shields are up close to the windshield. what a difference.

I bought my lowers and mounting kit last fall and now that I'm trying to mount them I find that the brackets are too big to fit the fork tubes above the brace. They will go below the brace but I think that's wrong.

I'm resigned to getting new brackets but I want to get the right ones. This thread ref's the MEM9891 mounting kit. Can someone verify that that kit is the one that mounts above the brace?

They mount below the brace.

they mount below the brace. if you reverse the plastic hole brackets, left to right, right to left, so that they move the lowers up, they will come w/in a half inch of the fats windshield. the down tube brackets stay the same. they work best in this position i think.

i can take a pic if need one.

I hear you cat but this arrangement looks more correct to me. I guess I only care about moving the lowers up though. I'll poke around at reversing them and see if I can manage. A pic would be great!

I agree with you Bill. My setup right now is like Todd's above only without the light bar and frankly they don't seem to make much of a difference. The air comes right through the gap between the lowers and shield. If anything it's worse. I plan to install the light bar in the next few weeks so that should solve my problem but without the light bar I would agree they need to sit higher to be useful.

So does anyone know the part number for the mounting brackets that would go above the brace?

Doh. I assumed everyone had a light bar ;-) Without one, they would need to go up above the brace.

Here's my advise: Do what we did originally which was hunt down another brand of bike at your local hangout that has MS lowers. Take along your handy ribbon tape measure and keep checking until you find a bike that matches the TBA measurement above the brace. Then order those.

ok. So per the Memphis Shades Lady, Part number MEM9891 fits covered fork tubes 55-63mm in diameter to mount the lowers. Our forks are 58mm above the brace so I'm going to try that - wish me luck.

I'll also be getting the 19 inch fats with MEM9907 mounting hardware.

Has anyone installed the MS lowers with the Summer screen? If so, was the turbulence reduced much?
