A very simplistic view of things What is your 73 Yamaha a copy of ?
It was a copy of a 2 cylinder garbage can. It was a piece of junk. They only made them for 2 years. The engine failed at the 4000 mile mark of it's second summer (wristpin). Lost the engine for the summer. Warranty was almost non existant. Had to pull the engine myself and give it back to the dealer before he'd repair it. After sending it back to Yamaha, he tried to flip me with the bill...twice. After several lengthy phone calls with Yamaha central, I received my repaired engine. It came back with the kickstand missing and leaking oil at the breaker points seal. Fixed that myself. Sold it as fast as I could.
If it was a knock off alright....it really showed it's counterfeit ways. I even tried to trade it in on a 850 Norton Comando in 2004 but the dealer wouldn't take the bike.
Counterfeit for the real thing.
There are some good knockoffs and yes it was meant as a bit of humour but I prefer the real thing.
