From out friend in Detroit... http://bloodfalcons.blogspot.com/2010/08/daves-bonnie.htmlI'm assuming it's an LC Fabrications hardtail. Sweet little ride. Could use a springer front end.

I like it in general but I would like it better with a battery box of some type and forward controls and either use or lose those frame tabs on the left side.

I really like to look at them. Why on earth with today's technology spend extra money to make a motorcycle ride badly? Why not soft tail it and hide the mono-shock and battery at the same time?
I really like the bike though as a bike night toy.

I think that battery box needs a top, also. Water off the rear would blast it in the rain. That bike would be fun on bike night. Wonder why the guys that eliminate their sprocket covers don't put some bolts in those holes...

There is no way I could ride that bike... just couldn't do it. I'd be so freaked out about getting a pant leg or a foot, or boot lace caught in the chain/sprocket, that I couldn't go near the thing. That, and to me the minimalistic theme of the bike makes the tank look hideous. I have to say "back to the drawing board" on that one.

I hear what you're saying Keith, back in the early seventies my brother was always getting his flares caught up in his peddle bike chain
Good to know you can still fit in yours

I'm with ya on the no sprocket cover part. Just like I'd not like an open primary on a V-twin. Might grab my pant leg & make me fall, (with no helmet.) Each & every one of us are F'd up in some degree or another, even the ATGATT poster boys. (Isn't that what makes the world so special?) I'm sure the owner of that bike, and the ones who like that style, wouldn't be caught dead on your bike, or mine. Me, I'll ride ANY & EVERY ONE OF THEM! (Even the baggers)
And you may see me tonight

Hardtail bikes don't ride bad if you know what you are doing. I put hundreds of thousands of miles on hardtail bikes. Inflate the rear tire to 10psi to help with bumps. I want to build a modern engined hardtail with a springer or girder front end but haven't had the cash.

at least it has the spring seat, my rigids had the seat on the frame...ouch, i still have problems to this day because of that. i gotta say though i am not that impressed with the open sproket but i guess if i were to wear engineer boots and tuck in my pant leg overall i do like the bike for bike night
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

Interesting, but that LC hardtail just doesn't flow very nicely. If that's the route you are going to take, a Choppahead hardtail frame looks a lot smoother. FWIW, with 5" springs on my hardtail, it rides pretty well. Mid-pegs are a must, so I can stand up over big bumps.

Maybe that's what it is... it doesn't flow very well. The eye get's stuck here and there. Of course it expresses great effort and imagination... all of which (you be the judge) may set it aside from the normal 'cookie cutter bobber build' (try saying that 5 times in a row). And yes, the picture maybe doesn't do it justice, but in the opinion of my eye... it lacks a certain 'je ne sais quoi.' Which reminds me, I wonder what Frenchy's up to these days.

Exactly right, mid controls combined with 10-15psi in the rear tyre and remember to take your weight out of the seat when you see big bumps, road surface changes, or the suspension on the car in front move violently, and you'll be fine.
My rigid runs a hard mounted seat to the frame, and it's more comfortable to ride than the softail I came off previously. I'll never go back from a hardtail now I've owned one.

All my rigids have had seats mounted to the frame (no springs)and forward controls. My one old pre-unit has a sprung hub rear wheel so I don't count that has an actual hardtail since it has a rear suspension of sorts.

Well Ian, I think there was once a poll taken among the motorcycle cognoscenti, and it was determined that any "suspension" that supplies the rider with only about an inch of travel is really no suspension at all.
(...and so I think your addition of "of sorts" at the end of your sentence was extremely advisable!)

No kidding.
But like they say, to each their own. I believe his hardtail is homemade if I remember correctly. I talked with him thoughout the build a bit and got him a lot of parts. He bought the bike wrecked and did it all up like you see it now.
I dig it, I want it, and I'd ride the poo out of it.

Yeah Davin, I too think the bike in question does look pretty cool. However, if you do ever ride that little beauty, here's a suggestion for ya...DON'T attempt to "ride the poo out of it". Ya see, I say this because if you're going to be runnin' only about 10 to 15 psi on that rear tire in order to make it somewhat "compliant"(as Ian above suggested), then that rear tire will most likely be just a scoatch, let us say, "soft and wobbly" sittin' upon that rim back there, and so it could make for some, let us say, "iffy" handling characteristics IF you in certain situations, as you said, decide to "ride the poo out of it". (...so, what say you only just "ride the pee out of it" instead as you head to that bike night, okay?!)

I run 28 psi in the rear tire of my hardtail Ironhead with 2" seat springs and have no issues.

Aah, but ya see, 28 is a much higher number than is 10 to 15, ain't it?! I'll bet your Ironhead is a very nice lookin' bike. What year Sporty is it? I always did like the look of those old Sporties! (...they remind me of "Then Came Bronson")

Yes, it is much higher. Thats what I'm saying... Just cuz it's a hardtail doesn't mean it has to be uncomfortable. I run close to "normal" psi and still ride all day in goldwing like comfort. No sore back or bruised kidneys.
It's a '73, and it's a beaut.

I'll bet it's very nice. I don't know if I've ever seen a pic of it around here before, so how about postin' another one of your Sporty if ya will.

I never noticed any adverse handling with 10psi but then again I can ride pretty much anything. I rode my chopper hard and fast on the twisty back roads here and had may a bike struggle to keep up.Here is a shot of the chopper I am talking about. And the bike with the sprung hub.
