Non-compressed. I just did this the other day. Fished the old springs out with a piece of wire... it was super easy. It they seem stuck you can compress the forks as Ed suggested thus forcing the springs upward, but start out with the front wheel off the ground. Pull them out nice and slow with a rag at hand and you shouldn't drip any oil. Caution... DON'T GET ANY OIL ON ANY PAINT! Maybe cover the tank with an old towel or something for peace of mind.
