I lived in Glenwood Springs for 7 years and delivered bread for my Dad's bakery to many of the ski areas. To me,Colorado Springs is just a big military town with Ft Carson and the Air force academy. If you can, head west on US 24 towards Buena Vista and then you could even make a loop north to Leadville on 24/91 or to Fairplay on 285 and on to Breckenridge. Then end up back to Denver to go back east. Lots of cool bars in Breckenridge but there may be a bunch of Turkeys (tourists) since it will be Labor day. One of my favorite spots in Breckenridge is still there after 30 years is the Whale's tail. http://www.skitownrestaurants.com/breckenridge/restaurant.php?rid=119 But if you're going to go all the way to Colorado Springs you HAVE to get up in to the mountains. Man it sounds like I want to go with you.
