I ran one of them once. It gets interesting.

1- Some people like to be anonymous. If that is the case they inhibit transparency of the fund for amounts sent in.
2- Who holds and distributes the money?
3- What qualifies as a run purpose?
4- Is it a general fund then pieced out as needed or a run per need?
5- Who applies for the special need?
6- Transparency in Donation if going to a fund.
7- The biggie, who decides if the need if valid and/or warrants the run?

Its very doable but not a quick post and a mail money type thing.

Yes, I will donate and or sell parts etc.

Thanks for these inputs Ron!

1. Anonymous could easily be done thru a paypal or similar account I would think. This is something I'd like more input on. Any vendors have a suggestion? You wouldn't really need to leave your name, and I think that except for auction items, that would probably be the best wat to go.

2. Good question. I'd think either the sponsoring party, or whomever will participate as the PayPal/credit accepting site.

3. I would say, anyone who is of the opinion that they wish to sponsor a charity or needy member here would be welcome to start a ride, but I would like some Mod input here as the best way to approach this. In my opinion, charity begins a home, and I view this site as part of my family, albeit a virtual one.

4. My opinion is as with real benefit runs, on an as needed basis.

5,6,&7. As with any internet site, the possibility for fraud exists.
Let the members here dicide if it is warranted, or if they chose to participate.
I'd venture to say that a lot of us have met in real life, and we know who is on the up and up, and have in the past spotted those whho are not.
If someone whom none of us has met, and don't know in real life comes along with a story, well, he probably won't get a sponsor, so no benefit run.
Let it be up to the run sponsor to sort these things and the members free will to determine what and how they would like to participate.
This is not a site governed by rights and priviledges, but by the AUP.
The BA site would not be resopnsible for any of this WHATSOEVER!

Please let's have some other member input about this, it seems to have support. other ideas?
Times ar really tough for a lot of us now with the economy and unexpected crap hitting the fan.
Like I said, I'd rather give at home, than put money in the pocket of "front charities" that skim alot from the donations.

Another question for Mods please: If a 24 hour run is what we do for a benefit, should we post about it here as a general notice and run it out of "Rides, Rallies and Events"? Could we do it all there including an auction?

Thanks all for the inputs ind interest!

later, Tom.

But, what do I know?
