This is the listing for an 2009 Triumph Bonneville AMERICA on ebay at the moment . for you guys over the pond.I do NOT agree with his views and am distancing myself from him . Dont think he is a member of this site . IT has made me Tho

Hi,

This auction is for my '09 Triumph America 865cc. This was my first bike, which I've owned since new. It was great as a first time bike and now that I'm a bit more experienced I can honestly say it is still fantastic. Unfortunately, I promised my wife it would have to go when we started a family, and that's why it up for sale. If I had my way I'd never sell it!!
So.. the bike has been housed in a garage and kept out of the Great British weather when not in use. As a result the paint and chrome are in great condition. I've spent loads of time and effort keeping it in top condition and I hope that this shows in the photos. I've covered 6774 mile on this bike, so it's well broken in, and the engine has never put a foot wrong. To further promote the condition I rode it to the dealership yesterday and it is a ****** of a lot better than any 2nd hand one they've got for the same money but with less miles.
The paint is not standard. Ordinarily, America's came in blue with the cream/white scallop and gold pin striping. This has been re-done by Triumph, so that it shows the same blue but with the silver that is usually found on the Speedmaster, in place of the white. Also stock bikes have the model name of 'America' on the side. This was removed by Triumph during the respray, mainly as who'd want the word America on a British bike! This make the bike unique. I have not seen another one like it at any of the bike meetings or Triumph owner rallies.

I've also added a lot extra's to this bike including the following, all of which are genuine Triumph accessories:
1) High Sissy Bar and Luggage Rack - £249.99. I've not sat on the back personally but my wife has told me that the ride back there is really comfortable.
2) Engine Dresser Bars across the front £124.99 - see picture 6. This gives the bike a wider/ styling and protects the bike should you end up dropping it.
3) Chrome Front Control Bar - £83.99
4) Triumph Logo Highway Pegs - £79.99 These are brilliant and my best buy. I'm 6' tall and like stretching my legs out whist riding, these allow this and stop my knees cramping up.
5) Chrome battery box - £52.99
5) Chrome Rear foot rest hangars - £119.99
6) Chrome Oval wing mirrors, marked Triumph - £93.99
7) Chrome rocker gear lever kit - £99.99
8) Chrome number plate bracket - £31.99
9) Chrome rear brake resevoir cover - £20.99
10) Chrome cam covers - £83.99
11) Chrome Light Bar and spot light Kit - £197.99
12) Scott Oiler to automatically lubricate the chain, fitted by Triumph. £ (I'll throw in two new bottles of the oil as well)
All this is about £1360 of extras on the bike

************
I also have a set of Genuine Triumph Large Leather Sadle Bags which hold 18 litres. These are also in good condition and come with the Chrome Mounting Frames, as in Picture 8 - £311.99.
I also have the chrome luggage rack - £93.99, that sits in place of the pillion seat and gives the bike a sleek beach cruiser appearance. This coupled with the rest of the kit looks brilliant.
I also have the blue and silver Triumph leather jacket and my wife's Triumph size 8/10 white and blue leather jacket that i will be selling.
I am selling these last three items seperately but will consider including them in the price of the bike purchase if the money is right.
************

The bike was last serviced by Triumph in June/July and has no mechanical issues what so ever. It still has 6 months Triumph unlimited mileage warranty.

I welcome viewings and will answer any questions anyone may have. I want this bike to go to a good home and to someone who will appretiate it. I am listing the bike and extras for sale elsewhere and so reserve the right to remove this item from Ebay at any time.

Pleas remember that you are bidding to buy, not to simply come and view it. The winner will have to pay £200 deposit into my Paypal account and the remainder on collection.

Good luck with this one. Whoever wins it will be well pleased with their purchase as you'll get a lot of bike for your money.

Thanks for looking.

He must have removed it from ebay. I tried Triumph, Triumph America, Bonneville, Triumph 865, and Triumph 2009.
Never found it.
"Triumph" should have covered it.

Hmmmmmm...interesting.

Actually, now that I think about it, I don't think the dude should've had the word "America" on his bike, either.

(I mean, anybody who'd feel the need to kowtow to their wife's demands of gettin' rid of his motorcycle, probably shouldn't ever own ANYTHING which has a name on it that represents the idea of "The Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave"...RIGHT???!!!)

Yep, John!

Apparently this poor fellow over in there in Blighty fails to understand the simple difference between being a "subject"(of his wife's edicts), and being a "citizen", free to choose his own path toward the "pursuit of happiness"!!! Hence, the fellow's lack of grasping the significance of what all that there "America" name truly stands mightily for!!!

(God bless AMERICA...both the country and the bike!!!)

Well Dave, actually I kind'a feel sorry for the guy.

'Cause even over HERE in The Land of the Free, and the Home of the Brave, I've known and know of more than a few good ol' American fellas who "kowtowed" to their wives demands of "gettin' rid of that motorcycle" once they started poppin' out those little rugrats and until said rugrats went off to college!

(...in FACT, I'll betcha there's "a few" of them poor devils who went through THAT who're readin' THIS right NOW around here...though luckily, I never did, and thus I remained FREE to pursue MY "path toward happiness" on all MY motorcycles all those years, uninterrupted!)

.....and her!

Bonneville is American, the bike is a fusion of British engineering and American influenced styling - that's its reason for being!

Feel sorry for future offspring.
Hope he never buys another Triumph.
Bet his next bike is a Hardley.
Otherwise he seems like a nice chap.

I must be in a minority because if I ever repaint my America that name would definately get the flick! I would much rather have Bonneville on the sidecover.Rightly so it is the one criticism of the bike that people express to me.Until a repaint one of FastEddies union jack decals takes pride of place underneath the America decal.
Edit - I also have to admit to selling my K100 BMW when our first born came along.A single income meant that the cash came in handy to provide a deposit for our first house.I did however still have a dirt bike for commuting on.

Yup you are in the minority. The name America on the side is the name she was given by Triumph and thus her name is AMERICA.Makes her stand apart even more from the commoners on std bonnys.

Yep I agree.Doesn't mean I have to like it.I mean Speedmaster is a cool name on its own.The early bikes at least had Bonneville America on the side covers so that WAS the name given to it by Triumph. They should have stuck with it. After all what is this forum called?

Geez, and to think I read it as sarcasm on the whole " distancing" oneself thing that has become so popular...

The bike is called "America" or "Bonneville America" for a reason (several, actually). You can do what you want to it. Doesn't change a thing. You're riding an "America."

Sucker.

Well Thom, if you're talkin' about the phenomenon of "distancing oneself" from a perfectly good motorcycle because the wife says you must, then I suppose I kind'a read it that way TOO!!!

I still remember my first post to this board, in the early summer of '03? I referred to the bike as an "American". Someone corrected me pretty quickly, I just can't remember who that was.

Hey Roadworthy. I remember when you did that and you posted the shop that made the decal for you. Perhaps you could do that again for those of us that respect and appreciate what "America" means. My recent accident damaged the side cover and now may be a good time for me to get that new decal.

BTW, nice photo.

Apparently, according to a program I half listened to last night, there is a new theory as to where the name America came from (in reference to the two continents).

The theory is that they were named after a bloke called "something Americ", as I said, I was only half listening.

Americ is apparently an old Welsh name, so maybe this guy has something against leeks and daffodils, oh, and sheep

See, I'm loving the fact that all my documents still have the word BONNEVILLE on them...even on the 09!

But I don't like the silver on the tank. It's yuck!

Gina 03 America - Pretty stock - except the TBS wheel... 06 America - missing, presumed in bits. With it's TBS wheel... 09 America - It's very blue....

Have to agree with ya that you are indeed a lucky man there, Jim.

Though, whenever people tell me how lucky I am to have found a woman who'll put up with all my s**t, I just tell 'em that THAT'S not "luck", THAT'S 'cause I'm smart enough to know how to "pick 'em"!

(you can use that one too if ya want, Jim...I won't demand any royalties for it)

Though, I have to ask: Do you and your wife have any kids who might be young enough to still be livin' at home? I ask this because of course the idea that many guys stop riding during those years IS very common. And, though I've been kidding about this phenomenon here, actually I can kind of see the point of respecting a concerned wife's wishes in this regard, due mainly of course to the idea that the sport of motorcycling CAN be a dangerous proposition which CAN result in some serous consequences.

Ya, I have 2; 5 yo son and 9 yo daughter. My son is still to small to go on the bike but my daughter loves it. In fact, my wife actually gets a bit jealous because, due to young kids at home, my daughter gets to ride with me more than she does.

As for danger, a lot of things can be dangerous. When it is your time it is your time. I actually lost a brother in a car accident because he didn't drink and drive. He would normally have 3 or 4 and drive home, this time he had 3 and grabbed a ride with a friend who hadn't had anything to drink.

Amerigo Vespucci, an explorer who came along behind Christopher Columbus, is the person most of us are taught for whom the North and South American continents were named.

The Welsh counterpoint is outlined here

So, we're Canadians, Brits, Poles, Greeks, Frenchmen Scandinavians, Australians, Kiwis and Yanks united by our love of riding motorcycles built by a company founded by Germans in Britain, assembled in Thailand and named for an Italian or Welshman.

Hope I didn't leave anybody out!

No Latinos', African Americans, or native Americans?

Hey Roadworthy. I remember when you did that and you posted the shop that made the decal for you. Perhaps you could do that again for those of us that respect and appreciate what "America" means. My recent accident damaged the side cover and now may be a good time for me to get that new decal.

BTW, nice photo.

Guess he could have gone to the custom decal store and gotten a "France" label for it.

Now I'm going to have to dust off the old Technics turntable and listen to my scratchy Hat Trick album. Why DID Muskrat Love make it to the top anyway?

Wiki say's they're still touring. I didn't know that!
