Steve McQueen: what I like in a bike and why

"Why does a movie star who just received $750,000 for making The Sand Pebbles for 20th Century-Fox spend his time cow trailing on a motorcycle? 'It's the clean smell of the desert in the morning. The satisfaction of setting up a rig and having it work perfectly in every way.'" 43 years ago Steve McQueen wrote a dirt bike comparison test for Popular Science. Here it is in its entirety.

Just couldn't read that due to not-like-they-used-to-be eyes, but I'm sure it was interesting.

To enlarge hard to read print, hold down control on your keypad and roll the wheel on yer mouse, being a blind guy myself, all I could say when told of this trick, "What took you so long to share this?"

Tried that but the image was too blurry.

If you click on the page in the article that you want to read, that'll enlarge it a little bit, then use Ryks trick to make it readable, or if you prefer, there's my trick of control + on the number pad (- to shrink again)

BTW, I couldn't read a whole book at that size though

Dang... I meant to say '38' not '98!' I was trying to be funny (sure blew that one!). But ya know... every time I see your handle I'm reminded of that old ballad "The Wreck of..." We discussed this in an earlier thread when you first registered here. Can't remember if I told you this but back in the '50s when I was just a boy, we found an old gramophone up in the attic of the house we just moved into. Along with the gramophone was a stack of 78s and "The Wreck of..." was in that stack. I can't remember who recorded it though... might have been Woodie Guthrie or Pete Seeger. Meanwhile.......

Thanks again for the link!

I have a copy of that issue of Popular Science (November 1988). I paid $5 for it at a swap meet a couple years ago.
