Link: http://www.bikeexif.com/triumph-bonneville-2 "the bike is called ‘La Grande Fuga’, meaning Great Escape." Doesn't say if the kicker is real.

Wow, that IS pretty cool, John! Kind'a doubt the kickstart mechanism actually works, though.
(yep, I'd say the "Cooler King" would be proud if he was still among us!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

That thing is gorgeous, though I'll be disappointed if the kicker is a fake. That would really detract from what is otherwise just a tremendous build... ...and if the kicker is real I'm totally in love. --Jaeger

that is a lot of springs piled on top of each other. I always liked those Harley toolboxes that are mounted on the rear fender.

Good look on that Trumpet! Can the kicker be real....hmmm? Been a while since I had the sprocket cover off but I don't remember there being enough room for a shaft in there. Big disappointment if the kicker is fake!

Looks like they used the rear brake pedal for the clutch. If that kickstart is connected to the front sprocket or shaft, it could only be kicked in gear...? I'd say its fake.

Well HECK, you two! Don't you guys realize that ALL those springs would come in REAL handy IF the gentleman who owns this motorcycle ever feels the need to jump over any barbed wire fencing which he could possibly encounter along his travels on board that baby!!!

Btw, for you guys who don't know the story of why it's a Triumph, made to look like a WWII German-issue motorcycle, that Bud Ekins(who subbed for McQueen) used for that famous barbed wire jump scene...well, here's the scoop:
Word is, McQueen had talked director John Sturges into that whole motorcycle escape scenario once the filming had already started, but the producers wouldn't let their star actually perform the stunt. And so, McQueen talked his old friend and fellow motorcycle racer Ekins into flying over to Europe to do it. However, once Ekins arrived to the set, he told everyone concerned, "There's NO freakin' way I'm going to do THAT jump on a freakin' BMW!"
(I love that story...which btw was only one of many which I heard at the Bud Ekins memorial service that was held a couple of years ago at the Warner Bros movie lot in Burbank California...AND btw, someone there had a older Meriden Triumph sittin' outside the studio theater where the ceremony took place, and which was also a very nice re-creation of this famous machine...it too was VERY cool!)

Interesting. Kicker has to be fake, which deducts bogus points from the coolness count....

It's amazing what a guy can do with a rattle can of crinkle paint and a Triumph Scrambler. Cool.

Well, in THAT case erle, look at it this way...maybe IF The Cooler King WOULD'VE had all those springs on HIS bike, then maybe he would've made to over that fence and into Switzerland afterall!!!
(...though I suppose then the ending of that movie wouldn't have had that ironic twist at the end, with that German guard giving us that quizzical look as he hears McQueen starting to bounce that baseball off the walls of that cell)

Opps, different ending again.
