My America with duel entry airbox and staintune exhaust managed 53.3HP and 49.6ftlbs of torque. I then installed a 994BB and with no other changes she managed 62ftlbs of Torque and 62.96hp at 5600rpm. So I then added 813 cams and DNA pods. Now I have 63.4 ftlbs of Torque and 80.1hp at 8000rpm. One day I may upgrade the head and TB's however at this sage I am happy with the results.

impressive with the efi did you (need to) change fuel mapping and/ or the ignition mapping?

I am going to have to catch up with you and get the finer details. I am looking at the big bore and larger injectors.
What it can't reach it spits at.

Just curious John, about what did the mods set you back?

I have an AF guage and I adjusted the fuel mapping to suit. I did not touch the ignition mapping. I have the tuneboy program.

To me the most important part of your data is what the bike is doing at 5250. Yours shows just above 62 which is great. The mid range torque and power is what you notice the most. You might could get even more with a needle adjustment (or map change) for the middle range.
My bike is at 75 max hp and 66 ft. lbs. of torque and I'm just a hair under 60 at 5250. I don't think I can get any more with my set up based on numerous dyno runs and testing. A lot of the max in the mid range is tweaking the mains and needles. Larger mains than you need may get a little more hp at max rpm but may hurt the midrange. If EFI, it's a bit trickier getting it right. Max. hp (at max. rpm) is not important to me as what's happing in the rpm range getting there.

Yes, it was a TPUSA 994. I would recommend them most highly, very helpful.

John, What's involved in machining the engine cases? Did you have to pull the engine right apart to performing the machining? Looks Good.

Yes you need to pull the cases apart and I would suggest that you send the top case to TPUSA to do the machining. They know what they are doing and it is not worth getting it wrong with new cases being $3500 or more.

The 994 comes with new billet jugs. The first two pics are with the new jugs installed and the other one is just what is inside the top case when you split the cases. This was the first time I have opened up a bike motor and I must say I did have much fun doing the job. It gave much satisfaction when I had it all back together and I pressed the starter and it started and did not go bang. I was very releaved. I found the 994 to be the cheapest way of achieving what it is I wanted from my build. Cheers, John

Did you keep the original tuneboy tune or remap after mods? I noticed you got an extra 18 ponies just by changing the cam. That may have to be my first step. Even if I get an extra 10 ponies with the standard bore I would be happy.

John, Thats awesome! I didn't know they were coating the jugs black now. Last (and only one) I saw was raw billet.

Thanks John,
What about changing the other mods they suggested related to the upgraded rods and bearings. Did you leave them stock also.
Great Pics.

It was necessary to remap after the mods, there was quite a change to the map I was using with the 865. I decided to get an AF guage and play with it myself, learning all the time. As to the cam, I would suggest that you get in touch with Carlos at TPUSA as to the gains you may get with the upgrade in cam. Don't get me wrong, the 813cam is great. Just in my case I was unable to feed the motor after 5600rpm with the stock cams so that is why I obtained such an increase, just my guess. If you write to Carlos and let him know what you have done to you motor and what it is that you would like to achieve then he will let you know what is the best and cheapest way to realise your goal. Cheers, John

Mine was raw billet to, I just painted it with heatproof paint.

I changed the bearings to white bearings and I left the rods stock as I was not going to take the rev limit above 8000. I am lead to believe that the stock rods are okay up to 8500. However if you were going to stroke the motor then I would say do the rod upgrade, much more torque. Cheers, John

Dang that's just amazing. I might do that just to get rid of the last of the black on my engine.
