I'm interested in the Windvest, what size did you get, the 14" or the 16"? And where did you purchase yours? So far the only place I've seen it advertised is at Custom Chrome. Thanks in advanced. The Bob half of Amy Lee & Bob.

John/Cody: I think craig mentioned that the screen came down further along the side of the headlight as well.

I have the Memphis Shades Pop Top in gradient black on my Speedmaster. The correct mounting kit is for the 800 Marauder, MEM9937, fits without modification.

Here's a picture of my replacement ClearView shield on the Triumph Roadster brackets. I love it. It's the smaller of the two sizes ClearView makes but it's larger than the Roadster screen.

I have a Wind Vest in the 16" and they also have a 14". They recomended the 16" since I'm 5'11". It blocks a lot of the wind from my chest and face but I still know I'm on a bike. I don't really like a wind screen myself and I thought this had the cleanest look and comes right off

Todd, does that new Clearview cut down any on the head buffeting? That's my only real complaint with the Roadster screen...anything above 70 mph is unpleasant.

Yes. It's a big improvement. Of course, the lowers help with that more than the windshield.

Is the Wind Vest adjustable, can you adjust the slant, I'm only 5'7" and I would like to be able to just see over the wind screen? I assume you got the Wind Vest for bikes with 1" diameter bars, www.customchrome.com catalog lists a 14" clear (#42957)and a 16" clear (#42987). Thanks in advance. Bob

Jake, How is the wind buffeting for the Pop Top? I'm 6'. Is the screen high enough?

Matt, the screen may be short for you, I am 5' 6" and look just over the top. I had severe buffeting until I figured out that if the sheild was up a bit in the mounting brackets, tipping the top forward slightly, the buffeting goes away. Now 50 mph and 90 mph feel the same, works great on the highway. There are similar models slightly higher. I will try and get a pic as requested by Cody.

Hi Cat, My Memphis Shades Windshield and lowers finally came. I went for the 17 inch in the end. I've not gone for a spin yet but it seems to be just the right height from a seeing over the top point of view. I've mounted the lowers a bit higher than I've seen. Best wishes Sid Here's a couple of pics

Bill: I am open on both counts. I have not previously wanted to add a screen because I love the way it looks as is. However, on some of my longer trips I get knocked around a good bit, so I thought I would look into adding one. It would be great if it could be easily removed whenever I wanted to cruise around town, but that is not a biggie. I don't really care what name brand, but I would not want it to be TOO big, hence my mentioning my height. I guess the smaller the better, but still providing the service for a short guy like me.
Thanks!!

Slipstreamer viper is a good cheap shield that is easily removable, for the price ($65) it's worth it.

I have a slipstreamer viper SS10 as well. it's pretty adjustable so you can probably accommodate your height. The only problem with the viper was that I got a good bit of buffeting at the bottom of my helmet. I have moved on to a memphis Fats with lowers.

I have the slipstreamer ss10 too. If you're only going to use it a few times a year and you don't want to spend much, it's a decent enough shield. Only time I put mine on is if I'm going on an overnighter a few hundred miles away. If you want something bigger, then look at some of the other shields in this thread. For bigger bucks, check out the Windvest. I would've bought a Windvest, but their Speedmaster model has a notch cutout for the speedo due to our risers/speedometer setup. I couldn't see forking out that much money for something that has a cutout like that. You wouldn't have that problem since you have an America.

Givi A601. Great looking screen that's not so big. Provides excellent protection. I'm 5'7" and it worked great for me. there are other views in the photo album.

Hi Guys,
I've traded in my 04 Speedmaster and feel like a bit of a turncoat posting here. Anyway as a result I have a 17 inch Memphis Shades Fats and lowers complete with mounting kits for sale. They have done just 2000 miles and are in almost as new condition. I also have a laminar lip to suit for sale either together with the 'sheild or separately.
I will ship them anywhere in the UK, purchaser pays postage.
Any offers.
email me at sid at the-wheel.co.uk
Best wishes
Sid
PS If you are wondering I've gone back to a BMW R1150RT

Hey JJ, any problems fitting that Givi? I see they are universal mounts. Did it work ok with the handlebar diameter and speedometer location?

Just installed Memphis Slims w/ MEM9907 mounting kit. Easy as butter, did it in the lot. Dealer said there should be about 3/4" - 1" clearance between top of headlight and bottom of cut-out on screen. With a light bar, I can only get about 1.75", w/o hitting the switch on the light bar, and am w/in 1/8th inch of the lights. Anyone have a solution?
BTW - Local shop v. Factory drop-ship - $5.00 more for mounting kit, screen same price. 7.85% sales tax vs. instant gratification, and a dealer who will come out every so often, see how it's going, provide a quick third hand, and check your work...I believe some ads would call that, Priceless.

Cat -
Thanks for the warning. I noticed you've placed the bracket seating on the mounts up(??) or out(??) as far a it will go. Since I already suffer from "dimple-itis," (due to the narrow steering limitig tab) I placed a couple of those small silicone dots on the triple tree or thereabouts, and that provides the protection I need.
What a difference. I can now hear every little sound the bike makes, and my ears have stopped ringing. I did two "Iron Butts" w/o the screen, and it doesn't fel like an elephant is sitting on my chest for hours at a time.
My only concern now is that with the right allen wrench in the worng hands, I could lose the screen in about 30 seconds. HEY BRETT - maybe someone needs to make a custom wrench and set of bolts, like they do for lug nuts.

Cat, Cat, CatCatCat...
Just had one of those Oprah "A-Hah" moments (mandatory watching when Mrs. Wall - not the one referred to in the "Who would you ride with?" post - gets the remote first) when I looked at your picture again, and compared it to my installation.
Well...Did you know that you can actually install the brackets "upside down, which puts the screen further/farther forward? Noticed that while looking from above, the placement of the bolts that connect to the mounting brackets is forward of the axis of the fork bolts. Your photo confirmed it. By flipping them over and switching sides, I will bring the screen back about 3/4ths", and it should take care of that clearance with the light bar issue. Thanks for posting the photo.

I think I may have mis-spoke - I was talking about the clamps around the tubes, not the brackets that connect to the screen. I think those are designed differently (tops and bottoms different), to provide a "lock" with regard to the force exerted on the screen. If you look at the tube clamps from above, say, the left one, the part that attaches to the clamp bracket is about 9:30 o'clock, and the head for the clamp bolt is at about 4:00. (Remember - you can't use a digital watch for this exercise ). If you just flip the clamp over, it puts the bolt that attaches to the screen clamp at about 8:30 (closer to the tank, but it needs to be flipped to the other side, because you can't tighten it without great difficulty). If I've confused you thusfar, I apologize. I think I'll try and take a couple of pictures, which will be like those "can you spot six differences" puzzles. Having said that, I do appreciate your support. Helluva list, ain't it?

I have a 05 America and bought a summer screen. The 13" screen is too short for me (I'm 6'0). I called ClearView Shields who make replacements for the Bonnie summer screen but not yet for the America. Is there ANYONE close to the Denver area that has an America with the factory summer screen? They want to see one to design replacements that are taller and function better. It would take an 18" (5" higher than stock) probably for me. ClearView wants input. Contact sales@clearviewshields.com with your thoughts. Do you like lightly smoked or clear? Different angle design, etc. They could have a replacement that would fit right on the factory bracket in less than a month if they can get all the info needed.

The America and Speedmaster use the same summer screen. Either bike would work. These guys (ClearView) make a great product, lets make this happen.
